Status Quo Sunday Is Dead, Long Live The Status Quo Sunday

This week's jam is in no way influenced by the passing of very regressive Supreme Court Justice Scalia:

Instead it was influenced by two things:
The first one, and most prevalent to someone who would be visiting the website of someone who bills himself as a Nerdcore Punk: DEADPOOL! While it has been 7 years since Origins and as long since I've been reading up on DP and wanting this movie. I even read the leaked script from 2010.

However, both me as a person and Deadpool's portrayal in pop culture have changed significantly those past 7 years. I've seen a shitton of cosplayers at cons, his being wedged into every intersection of things that are "nerdy" and "funny" with memes of him everywhere, and the idiotic videogame, at some point along the line, I was like "OK, this is too stupid for me". The ad campaign leading up to the movie didn't help either, and at certain point I was dreading the movie. Basically, I was going in expecting this:

The Ugly: Deadpool's face. Kudos to the makeup artists and the effects people for really going hardcore on some of the body horror stuff.

The Bad: The villain was really lackluster. Like, he could have just worn a white morphsuit that just said "BAD GUY" on it and the effect would be the same. It's also not as weird as I was hoping for. It's failry standard plot for an action movie, just with everything shifted around a little.

Also, remember two paragraphs ago when I said I read the leaked script? Yeah, it spoiled some of the bigger jokes for me.

The Good: Despite all of that, Ryan Reynolds's delivery sold me on everything. It was a superhero movie with small stakes made interesting, a romantic subplot where the couple got to know each other over a year,

Also there was a lot of shit in that script that thankfully got cut out. Spoiler: Running joke where Amy Winehouse almost dies.

ANYTHING ELSE?
The big news this week was that I was interviewed for FandomMania's Geek Music podcast. Seriously, look how fucking rogueish I look in that picture.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT HERE!

COOL STORY BRO.
Yeah, it was.

YOU KNOW WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR.
About?

THE MAGIC THING.
Oh yeah! I went 2-1 at Game Day. and got a crapton of spare promos they had. Abzan did fairly well, my only loss was against a Black/Red Dragons deck. On top of that, there's a special offer when-

NO, DIPSHIT. THE SONG, WHERE'S THE SONG?!?!?
Coming this Wednesday. I have everything written, and it's mixed, but there's some cuts I wanted to make, I want to get little production sounds decent, and make sure everything rolls along.

In the meantime, here's a preview of the god-tier cover art by the God Tier artist, God-Bird and you can find him at God-Bird.com:

Status Quo Sunday Welcomes Our Eldrazi Overlords

This week's jam:

Never has music and 80's style fitness become so engrossing since Eric Prydz's "Call On Me"

Wait, what was I talking about again?

Oh yeah, sexy ass YouTube videos. Like for example, the Battle For Zendikar song I FINALLY put up on Youtube!

Just in time for the Top 8 in the Oath of the Gatewatch Pro Tour to be all Eldrazi decks!

Basically, this is a cop out, since I don't have a song ready for you all YET. I am working on that, a Deadpool song, and a mini session that I'm developing and will have for you all next Sunday should I have nothing ready.

I'm on thin ice at work and everyone's sanity back here is razor thin, so it's been touch and go.

WELL, I'LL GUESS I'LL FUCK OFF THEN-
NOPE!
You know how during my Echo Chamber Recaps I've been making up Magic: The Gathering Card for th crew? Well, Jeff made one for me!
Eric, Rhythm Bastard
My plan was to be a mono-Green creature, with fighting, but eh.
Also, Jeff hade another one for me:
Status Quo Radio

We're on Skype right now working out the details.

Lastly, Orlando based Music Festival Ongaku Overdrive is holding a survey, that will let them know what YOU want to see at the festival!
*cough* write in Rhythm Bastard *cough*

Echo Chamber Recap Episode 137

BANG GOES THE DYNAMITE

-OK, let's go over the breakdown again:
I'm Deadpool. I started the analogy, and I'm usually behind 99% of the non-sequiters on the show.

Cable and Wolverine are the most regularly featured characters in Deadpool stories, and alternatively to what I said in the podcast, Jeff could be Wolverine, since he's hairier and drinks a lot, and Arcanon would be Cable since he's handled way more guns. Meaning he's handled at least one gun. And he's younger, so it's technically like he's from the future.

Owen is Blind Al, Deadpool's roomate/prisoner. She's always the butt of his jokes, though she goes over way more often, representing how he always ignores our request to put music in.

John would be Weasel, informant/arms dealer, but now that I think about it, he'd probably be like the Great Lakes Avengers, since he only showed up that one time.

Anime Cow would be Ajax: relevant long ago, and featured prominently in an important storyline, but is a non entity.

Mystakin would be Taskmaster, since he and Deadpool always make for good storylines (the Eric and Erich show)

-17 Rock Band 4 songs were released, and as of today, "Panama":by Van Halen. LET'S CHECK OUT THE BIG BOARD!

OWEN 1 POINT
Uptown Funk Bruno Mars
Get Lucky Daft Punk
Sing Ed Sheeran
Magic Pilot
Shake It Off Taylor Swift
Sugar Maroon 5
Sk8r Boi Avril Lavigne
Superman Goldfinger
Die Young Ke$ha
All About That Bass Megan Trainor
PAOLO
Pompeii Bastille
Rude Magic
Hey Jealousy Gin Blossoms
Come With Me Now Congos
Flagpole SItta Harvey Danger
Animals Maroon 5
Sweater Weather The Neighborhood
Remember Disturbed
Lightning In A Bottle Summerset
Gimme Chocolate Baby Metal
ERIC
Shut Up and Dance Walk The Moon
Locked Out Of Heaven Bruno Mars
Gold On The Ceiling The Black Keys
Tightrope Janelle Monae
Chelsea Dagger The Fratellis
Danger! High Voltage! Electric Six
Calling All Destroyers Tsar
Light Up The Night The Protomen
Let's Dance To Joy Division The Wombats
Sellout Reel Big Fish
JEFF

Me and My Broken Heart Rixton
Do I Wanna Know Arctic Monkeys
Sail Awolnation
Big Me Foo Fighters
Defector Muse
Get Better Frank Turner
You're Gonna Go Far Kid The Offspring
Na Na Na My Chemical Romance
Yup. Still the same.

Though as another addendum, my perfect Rock Band 4 song would be "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie.

Not exactly difficult to play, but imagine the energy in that room.

-Fall Out Boy going sample heavy is A. a thing that's been noticed, and B. Not entirely unexpected in retrospect. They've frequently worked with hip-hop producers, and they've been able to survive the Post-Hot Topic-Emo Downfall by just being weird. Like, really, who else would have a music video directed by the Happy Tree Friends studio?

THEY FUCKING KILLED THEMSELVES IN THEIR OWN MUSIC VIDEO!
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/happytreefriends/images/7/7f/Fall_Out_Boy.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080906153956

Them, My Chemical Romance and Panic! at the Disco, survived by just happening to be in that niche. MCR went with concept albums with completely opposite tones and premises and went like "FUCK YOU QUEEN!". Panic! decided to play around with being Steampunk Beatles.
But yeah, if you don't like being called part of a particular genre, be really weird.

-Dynamite Hack's cover I found out about through AMV Hell. (1:42)

-thanks marobama "Maro" is Mark Rosewater, head designer for Magic The Gathering, aka The Guy Who's Ruining Magic The Gathering

 http://usercontent1.hubimg.com/8612984_f260.jpg

-There has been a disturbing trend among my Facebook Friends. I don't necessarily like calling this stuff out for the sake of maintaining peace, but I feel like I need to say it. These days, people seem to be more polarized than ever, and I'm an even-keeled person, but I can only take such an injustice for so long.

Namely, picking the WRONG SHIT ON SPLATFESTS!!! Seriously, fact that I'm seeing people pick hotdogs and waterslides is A LITERAL CRIME ON HUMANITY

-Rock Head should have its own Wiki Entry. Like, me and Paolo should work together on a page on here that says "The Lore Of Rock Head" and just start making shit up. Why am I telling you jerks about this? GO AWAY!

Status Quo Is Setting Up The Tower

This week's jam:

Yeah, it's unfortunate, and the WWE could use more "out there" characters.

ARE YOU READY?

STATUS QUO RADIO UPDATE:
SOON.
Me and Roborob finished up mastering the tracks this past weekend.

I got the print back from my artist, who's doing an EXCLUSIVE print for the Kickstarter, and it looks AWESOME.

Everything's been budgeted out.

All I need to do is shoot the video, finish the copy and we're good to go! GUARANTEE by the end of the month. The family's moving by September, so in between all my preparation for that and ONF, I want to get this done ASAP.

Speaking of which:
ORLANDO NERD FEST!!!
I'll be there on Sunday, and playing on Monday at the Day After Show at 7 PM! Really looking forward to it, and getting my set-list ready now. I go on after SkyBlue, and before MagiTek.

I've only got half an hour, but it's thirty minutes of all the best, so the show will have a mosh-heavy intermission.

DEADPOOL TRAILER:

Yo, I'm down, but if I hear the word "Chimichangas" my hype goes from a 10 to a 5.

Waypool = Worstpool.

Status Quo Sunday Remembers Iwata, Then Gives It To Ya

First the bad news: President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata just died.  The man was nothing short of awesome. He was an amazing programmer, and his accomplishments include helping debug Super Smash Bros Melee to make its release date, rebuilding Earthbound from scratch in record time, porting the Pokemon battle system from the Game Boy Games to the Nintendo 64 for Pokemon Stadium, AND compressing Pokemon Gold and Silver to fit the Kanto region in there.

On top of all of that, when the Wii U wasn't meeting sales expectations, he cut his salary in half so that his employees wouldn't feel the burden. Can you imagine an AMERICAN CEO doing that, let alone one in the gaming industry?

RIP Iwata.

This week's jam:

Sigh...

I saw the leaked Deadpool trailer. I didn't want to see it, go in fresh, and let the movie impress me... but I really liked what I saw.

I read the leaked script, so I was expecting a couple of the story beats, save for the ONE NEW CHARACTER, but it looks like there will be enough to surprise me. Also, I didn't hear the word Chimichanga ONCE, so while they're leaning hard on being an over-the-top R-Rated action/comedy, there will be no Waypool.

For those of you further behind, Waypool refers to writer Daniel Way, who wrote the character for most of the late 2000's. Now imagine someone wrote Deadpool based on cosplayers and 4chan "Best Of" Posts from 4chan's /b/ board. Not /co/ where you might get some discussion, but /b/.

Also, it was announced that Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness, the team behind the first year of Deadpool's first ongoing series, will come back to write a Deadpool/Spiderman series.

Now, for the bad news: President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata just died.

OK, Rhythm Bastard News!

MUSIC/MAGIC NEWS:
Played at my prerelase! Went 1-2 and dropped.

My "Try To Write Something, Anything During Lunch Break" is working out pretty good. Should have new stuff soon. I wanted to finish my Origins Rap, but I might just put up my section for Jace as a little preview. The verse is ready to go, but I still need to find 3 female MCs (not a lot of people there), who play Magic (a very limiting Venn Diagram)

KICKSTARTER NEWS:
Art times fun times! The poster design is being worked on and looking spectacular, and my T-shirt design is in the beginning stages. Once those are finished and I nail down the budget, we'll go live!

Basically the main theme of this week is that I'm finally committing things to paper, and at least it's better than me talking in generalities.

UPCOMING SHOWS:
It's almost midnight, and I want to do this by Sunday, BUT next week I'll hopefully have more details regarding my shows. Sometime throughout the week, I'll update the sidebar and send out a newsletter.

FOR THOSE OF YOU FURTHER BEHIND:
Chibi Pa Sampler-
July 26th
 Doubletree by Hilton
Deerfield Beach, FL

Orlando Nerd Fest-
August 10th
The Geek Easy
Orlando, FL

YO, SHUT THE FUCK UP I FOUND A BETTER TRAILER THIS WEEKEND:

Status Quo Sunday Catches You Up Before You Go Go

Missed last week... but will more than make up for it!

But first... The Jam:

OK, so to make up for it, here's the big news:
ALBUM NEWS-
The last song has been send to Rob for mixing/mastering, meaning that the album is conceptually 100% done. After all that's back, production will kick in to high gear, but for now, I'm keeping it chill.

It's done. There's interstitial tracks left to work on, but A. Someone else may record those, and B. any work done with that can be done on my end since it's just removing the noise and leveling it out.

So, I'm going to spend April finalizing stuff for the Kickstarter, which will launch on May 1st, and while THAT'S going, put the finishing touches on everything.

Still trying to plug away at Dragons of Tarkir, but between finishing the album and Hurricon, that took a backseat.

HURRICON?
Yup, played again this past weekend!

Here's the Flickr Files.

Show went well. Had a few people just passing through, Everyone who stayed around for the whole thing loved it a lot and that makes me more happy than anything. No table, but gave out some posters and CDs to the loyal few.

I also saved like, 5 panels. I travel with A LOT of sound equipment, and for Christmas, I got a handtruck that made everything REALLY easy, so there was NOTHING I could handle.

Other than that, it was a really solid local con. Played some rounds of Magic, HMK was there, along with Paul St. Peter, the voice of Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts. I'm not a big anime guy, but it's a delight seeing all these pretty anime characters being played by guys who look like my Dad. It's sweet it it's own way!

Mad props to a SoFloConBro, Gaijin Takiyaki. DELICIOUS treats in a bunch of flavors! Unfortunately they were out when I got there.

MUSIC STUFF:
All my Rhythm The Bastarding songs are now available for download. I originally disabled it for the mailing list peeps, but I think the statute of limitations

Speaking of which, the mailing list peeps WILL get a new track sometime this week!

Also, HOLY SHIT THE DEADPOOL MOVIE IS FOR REALZ!

"Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry

-Raising our chocolate rations from 30 grams to 20 grams is a reference to 1984. If I can find a way to put that in an elegant way I'd make it a regular saying.

-1099 is absolute bullshit. I don't think I've had any good job where I was paid on a 1099. If it looks like a real job, smells like a real job, and you get paid on 1099, RUN.

-Super Win The Game IndieBox:

-So here's the news on the casting breakdowns. If you read the leaked script, Wham! is an appropriate working title, kinda like how Avengers was "Group Hug" and Captain America was "Freezer Burn" which both sound like Steven Segal movies that come on in 2 in the afternoon on a Wednesday. CopyCat, Ajax, Weasel and Blind Al are all for a lock. I really hope this doesn't turn into Deadpool: The Game: The Movie

-Shovel Knight Medley:

DOWNLOAD ECHO-SODE 97

-We're getting a Deadpool movie!!! YES! YES! YES!

-Seriously, if you're not hyped, READ THIS ARTICLE. Fun fact: Tim Miller was the special effects director for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and became a director JUST FOR THIS MOVIE. If there is any movie I'd want Deadpool to rip off, it'd Scott Pilgrim.

-Just sayin' Fox. I too can wear a green shirt over black DP-T and stand next to a guy dressed as Deadpool:

-Real Footage of Nicholas Cage's Agent:

-Athreos and Erebos are two of the Gods from Magic: The Gathering's Theros block. Erebos is the God of the Dead, who is in charge of the underworld, and Athreos is the God of Passage, that ferries the dead to the underworld.

-Vault of Glass, Destinypedia entry. WARNING: SPOILERS.

-There's a Wiki here for Final Fantasy speedruns. A breif look at some of the run times show that the runs get the longest at around Final Fantasy X/X-2, and are shortest around 3/4. There's also a strategy guide here for some of the series, which gives credence to the theory that sometimes speedrunners know the game better than the people who made it.

-Wikipedia article on the Koopalings. Like the Katt and Falco shipping war from last week, there's been a very tumultuous debate on if they're Bowser's children are not

-Godfuckingdamnit U2. BONO YOU ARE NOT PUNK ROCK. Bono Koopa would be rejected from the Koopaling because Bowser would immediately wreck his shit. This marketing move goes with Bono's definition of punk rock, as it "stirs things up and annoys people", but it is also very against the populist ideals of punk rock by serving the very people that deserve to be annoyed.

U2 claiming the Songs of Innocence release is punk rock is like saying that cable companies holding monopolies over territories and practicing harmful anti-consumer policies are punk rock because "it annoys people".

-I TOOK IT, AND THREW IT ON THE GROUND

-The whole discussion on "Corporate Trust" thing is very odd, and mired a lot of bad blood. It's akin to whatever happens when upper-middle class white people discover a new word like MSG, or gluten, where they become hyperaware of things they've been enjoying the whole time. Remember when all the info about the Xbox One came out during the same time all those NSA leaks occured?

But, this should be the thing that makes people more savvy and cautious to these types of situations, and look for alternatives that you are more comfortable with. Or you can complain and fall into the same traps. Whatevs.
