NEW SONG: "Let The Bombs Go Off"

So, I have officially graduated to Studio One. Jesse Schopher, who did all of the work of the Dino Hunter MD Soundtrack, uses it and hooked me up with all of the plugins he uses, and gave me a crash course in mixing and setting up my stems, and this song I did pretty much all by myself, after he showed me how to bus drums and stuff like that.

I've used REAPER and Audacity in the past, but seeing Studio One in action has straight up blown me away, with how good it is for mixing. Maybe it's because it's what Jesse's familiar with, but playing around with this thing has absolutely blown me away, especially using the plug-ins. While it has made things "too easy", when you work 8 to 5 and trying to get this music shit off the ground, any little bit helps.

Besides, I'd like to think my strength lies is songwriting :)

This was another one of those songs that sort of came to me when I was dicking around on the guitar and built around one particular riff, so D# octave was the seed for this song.

Finally! Now, my least favorite part of this was, like Mississippi Queen, they switch off between the lead and rhythm guitar parts. Listening to how they mixed it in Rock Band, it's pretty often. Basically, it switches off every 4 measures. This song wasn't that hard. This was what kept tripping me up on the solo:

Specifically that part. It's very quick, so you need to sweep pick. Basically, just hold the same shape, but sweep the pick down on the three strings in one stroke. It's like an arpeggio.

This guy knows it better.

OK, there is one HUGE thing I have to get out of the way first:
The real problem from this song comes not in the actual playing or instrumentation, but how the songs is mixed in Rock Band, versus the original song.

When it goes to the chorus ("I'm looking to the sky to save me..."), in Rock Band it's a repeat of the verse (more or less). In the original version, it's a repeat of the intro.

It was remixed (they have all the master tracks, and rhythm/lead guitar was broken up) for the sake of changing up the difficulty/patterns, but it's still interesting to note.

Real simple: index finger on the second fret of the A string, held against the D string (just touch it) and ring or pinky on G string (heh, G string). It's shaped like a power chord, but it's called an octave chord (hitting the same note (B), on the next higher octave). Slide up, bend the strings up, then slide back down.
