For some reason, after I've been off a song for a while, I come back to it and it's like "Oh, this is easy!" This is one of those songs.

No Need To Be PARANOID, Phil's Safe

PARANOID

Easy up until the solo, hich even then deals strictly within the pentonic scales. I learned the first half from this thing I got for Christmas one year.

Extremely Wanted In California

Hey everyone!

So recently I've been changing up my training regiment, working on permutations and chord shapes so at least are the skills are there, and one exercise I've been able to complete are the chords to "Wanted Dead Or Alive".

C, G, F, D Progression is used for the chorus. There's still more to the song, and that intro is a killer, but any update is better than no update.

Also, the fact that I happened to find a YouTube video of the Guitar Hero Setlist and bothered to type it up continues to get me dozens of hits, and one of the referalls brought to my attention something called CAX, an arcade expo in California.

California Extreme is an arcade show this coming weekend. I, being in NYC and poor, am unable to attend, but they'll be having a Guitar Hero Arcade tourney, so hopefully those of you can send pics and vids and whatnot.

A Very Rare Occasion...

THUNDERSTRUCK

Hardest part? I dunno, the entire song alternated between easy and cool sounding with complicated and fast every other measure.

The intro riff is of course:

There's not really alot to say here technique wise. I still love this song.

Two changes to note:
1. Live version and recorded version (which I used the tabs for), have different solos.
2. RB2 and Track Pack version are different. RB2's version requires you to strum every other note in the intro, on the track pack the infamous opening is one long HOPO.

YEAAAAAAAH!!!

WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN

First off, work on your basic open chords A (-02220) and D (--0232) for the verses.

G (320033) is the next most used chord, particularly in the after chorus breakdowns.

E (022100) and C (-32010) are used here.

The Who is one of those bands where they really don't "sync up", but are still a well composed group. Instead of the drum and bass being the backing rhythm for the guitar it was the other way around. Not to say that they didnt have some sweet solos, it's that the main focus is the drum section.

Now, I "cheated" a bit with this song, and played what could be considered the "acoustic version". Yes, I know I'm anti-everything acoustic, but I just played the chords in the same rhythm. If you look at the tab as well as the note chart on RB, it looks like there's more going on.

The shapes of the chords I played (A and D) are still held, however different sections are picked as if it were a lead guitar.

Now, the solos I can't really help you with, but I can give a tip:

In a section like this:

e---------4---2---0---------7---------4-----2---------4----------7--

B------------------------------------------------------------------------

G--2/4---4---x------5-/7------2/4---4---x-2-/4------2/4-----

Slide from the 2 to the 4th fret using the ring finger, so you don't have to move your hand. Stuff like that. Not a whole lot I can do at this point. The hard parts at this point are the solos, but I still gave something to think about right?

Also, for the interludes after the chorus, refer to "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?" for how to switch between G and D efficiently.

Now, how can I foreshadow the next update while still referencing this one?

Show Em Side Two!

DEAD ON ARRIVAL

Yet another song much easier than the tier implies. It's fast though (from here):

Keep the power chord shape (bridging the lower frets with index finger/higher frets with ring finger), then your middle finger for the 4th fret, ring finger for 5th fret.

If you can alt strum, the solo is easy, especially if you use the arrangement in the tab I linked. That way, your fingers never have to move up and down the neck. Or is it left to right...

I think about weird things sometimes, like "What would it be like RIGHT NOW if Ron Paul were President?" (Worse off then we are now, but maybe be a bit more stable after the recession) or, "What would happen if someone were to go back in time and kill Hitler?" (Probably this). However, for the sake of intelligent discussion, let's speculate on "What would Kurt Cobain be doing today if he didn't kill himself?" My guess, READING MY BLOG!

Shit, sorry I haven't been posting as much lately. I haven't gotten bored with this at all, it's just that I have a lot going on right now. BUT, I managed to own another song. BTW, this is REALLY easy considering it's up this high.

Slim Pickin's

I find myself right now in a bit of a quandry.

Black Hole Sun is really easy, until you get to the solo. If anyone can give me some sort of direction on this, like the most efficient way to do it, or possibly refer me to a step by step tutorial, that'd be great. OR if you'll give me a reprieve on this one and I'll play the rhythm guitar for the time being, and do the solo lesson at a later date.

I've switched over to working on "Gimme Shelter".

Now since I only have 2 songs from Tier 4 left, I'd figure I'd put up my DLC choices. Not a whole lot here, since there are only so few songs at this level I recognize.

So I picked "Breed" for my DLC selection and it's a toss-up:

"Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy- I love this song. It alternates between a blues-boogie and hard, driving rock.

"Truckin'" by The Grateful Dead- This is the song "What a long strange trip it's been" came from.
