Status Quo Gets By With A Little Help From Its Friends

I MISSED LAST WEEK BECAUSE I WAS PAX EAST

All of The Echo Chamber (from L to R: me, The Ozone, Arcanon, Mystakin and Weff).

Oh God, so much happened over that weekend, so I'll just copy some stuff over from my Twitter Thread on it:
-Smack Talk Showdown/FUNEmployed:
So, it used to be that EVERY party game was trying to rip off Cards Against Humanity, which ripped off Apples to Apples.

I am thoroughly sick of Cards Against Humanity. Too much of it relies on the card being funny, the jokes don't work on everybody, and you'll always have one asshole going "OH COME ON! THAT WAS SO FUNNY!" Apples to Apples abstracts thinngs a little bit, since you can't rely on throwing down MIDGETS SHITTING IN A BUCKET LOL.

Smack Talk Showdown and FUNEmployed require you to actually be funny, and use your wits. With Smack Talk Showdown, you cut a wrestling promo with a set up, and have to deal with "Smack" cards that you need to include. FUNEmployed makes you take 4 seemingly random cards and have to present a coherent presentation on why you should get the job.

-Beat 'Em Ups Are BAAAACK! AND ALL THREE OF THEM ARE DIFFERENT?
1. Raging Justice- What's Different?
A unique art style gives the appeance that all of the characters are rotoscoped clay models, like Mortal Kombat makes DKC. Also has objectives where you can arrest certain perps for bonus points.

2. Streets Ablaze- What's different?
Full 3D characters, environmental hazards and a neat little effect that shows off your "finishing moves"

3. The Take Over- What's Different?
Made in conjunction with Matt of Super Best Friends Play, this has full 3D environments, and GUNS. Most importantly though, it has Haggar Dropkicks. MAtt's a fan of the genre, so I know he and the team will do it justice.

-Sentinels Of Freedom:
I love the Sentinel Comics verse, and I'm really glad this game is coming out.

So far everything "fits" the tone and gameplay of the original Sentinels Of The Multiverse, and creating my own charachter only seems like an added bonus. Who knows? My they'll make me enjoy playing as Fanatic!

FRIDAY NIGHT MYSTERIES PRESENTS: DANGANRONPA EPISODE 8

Now we're getting into the good shit. The Manly Stanley joins me on this episode, and we talk about Zero Escape, Ace Attorney and my Danganronpa Theories. Like I mentioned, I'm going to try another game after this one before going to the sequel.

Hopefully he can join me in future episodes!

JAM OF THE WEEK: Danganronpa Menu Music

Because it's baller and I've never featured it before.

Rectangular Reckoning: Sentinels Of The Multiverse #1

Love this game! You can get EVERYTHING on Steam for $40, which is one copy of the tabletop version. Makes things really easy to play on your own.

I got my ass beat a lot on this game, but it also has a handy rewind function so you can rethink you past couple moves. Really great game, and worth every penny.

Status Quo Sunday Kicks It Old School

SUPERCON RETRO!

I'm playing not one but TWO shows that weekend!

Saturday, April 15th- 7:15 PM
MACC 2

Sunday, April 16th- 5:30 PM
MACC 1

More details to come! I just had a conversation with the production crew, and they seem like they're 100% on point, so I'm looking forward to that!

THIS WEEK'S JAM: "Scenario" by A Tribe Called Quest

"Why this song?" you ask. Well, ever since Harmonix showed off their recently announced game DropMix, I became intrigued with some of the lesser known songs on the setlist.

http://webcdn.harmonixmusic.com/media/blog/featured/DropMix_Header_-_TM.png

I like the song, it's one of those raps from back in the day where 7 people had verses that went on forever, but can we talk about the music video here?

No, can we? Because this takes me back to something I'm even more familiar with: Multimedia CD-ROMs.  Oh, all the CD Encyclopedias and barebones video editing programs I dicked around with in school! Looking back from 2017, there's nothing crazy going on here, but there's lots of little neat cues that bring it above "thing a 10-year-old can replicate now"

WHATCHA PLAYIN?
All right, here we go:
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/4sVJvvZPy88/maxresdefault.jpg
Not A Hero- A side scrolling shooter I got from Chrono.GG. I only paid 5 bux for it, which is my limit for something like this. While you might feel like it's a runner and gunner, it's more of a cover shooter, where it's best to slide from cover to cover, taking shots when you have the opportunity.

You play assassins who have been tasked with cleaning up crime in the city so that Bunnylord can be elected Mayor. Bunnylord is the purple guy in the middle there.

The humor both works and doesn't work for me? Bunnylord will say things like "Shooting bad guys in the face is totes awesome sauce" which is the kind of shit that belongs in a D-Tier Deadpool comic, but I never found myself hating it too much. Primarily because I imagine Bunnylord saying it straight faced in his alien, warbled language, and I'm down for that.

Not particularly interesting otherwise, wait for a sale.

Sentinels Of The Multiverse- Another game I got for 5 bucks, but this one is the digital version of the tabletop game of the same name, like Star Realms. It's barebones, relying on online multiplayer (which I haven't tried) and the weekly "one shots" that give you a different challenge to work through. There's also a lot of microtransactions for DLC with expansions for new heroes and new scenarios.

It can get pretty costly, but when you consider how expensive the base game is, at roughly $50 for all the expansions in a more accesible form is nothing to sneeze at.
