Like Flies In The Vasoline

VASOLINE

Super-easy song. Only half the solo will mess you up. Most of the song:

E--1--3--

Repeat.

The chorus:
G--8---------7-6-5-----------
D--8-x16----7-6-5-x16------
A--6---------5-4-3----------

The solo Pt 1:
e---8p7---------
B---------6--6--
Repeat 8 times, finishing off with bend the 6th fret of the B string. It's easier if your index finger is already in position on the 6th fret of B.

Second part is disorienting, but doable:
G----4p0-4p0-4p0---------------
D--------------------5p0---------
A-------------------------2--2----

G---4p0-4p0-4p0----0-5b-----
D-------------------0-----------
A-------------------------------

Repeat twice.

Spooning? All I Can Do To Get

NEXT TO YOU

This is another solo-less entry, since I can find tabs for it. It does sound like a slide, like it wouldn't be too hard. WAY easier than expected. So, the bassline during the solo is:

D--------5------3---2-----------------7-------5--4---------|
A-----------------------x4-----------------------------x4--|
E--3--3------3-----------------5--5-------5----------------|

The opening/verse is where most of the difficulty occurs. It's very fast:

G--2-2-----------------------------------------
D--0-0---2-2---------------------------------
A---------0-0---2-2-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x---
E----------------0-0-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x---

GAHHH!!!

They're actually making it.

Just when I thought Harmonix would go a different route than Activision with their respecive rock franchises. Alas, all great kings must fall.

The song list:
"Song 2" Blur
"Kung Fu Fighting" Carl Douglas
"Girls and Boys" Good Charlotte
"So What" Pink

This is looking a lot like Guitar Rock Tour but I wonder why they weent with LEGO. I'm putting the stupid label on this one, I hope I'm wrong.

Unlike this:

Oh, How Sweet It Is

Shit, sorry I haven't been posting as much lately. I haven't gotten bored with this at all, it's just that I have a lot going on right now. BUT, I managed to own another song. BTW, this is REALLY easy considering it's up this high.

BALLROOM BLITZ

There's a man in the back who's ready to crack, because it's late, and I gotta million things to do, but this part, the main riff:

D-9--11-12--11--9--
A-7---7--7---7---7--

Not the hardest part. Good for stretching out your hand though.

Nor is it the solo. Just pentonics, nothin' to see here.

No, it's this bit that comes after the bridge:

G---10--8-------------8-----8-10--
D-----------8--8h10-----10--------
A-8---------------------------------

Nice lick, but comes out of nowhere. Easier if you bridge all three strings with index finger.

BTW, "your" DLC song choice is "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. No-one voted, I decided.

April 15th Open Mic Night

OK, here goes (GOLD- Aced, ***- Barely made through, **-F'ed up)

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" by Jet- *****
This one went really well. My opening banter kicked ass, I hit on some girls at the "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" breakdowns (one even got jealous when I did another table). I only messed up at the end when I forgot how I was supposed to end.

"Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack Of Hearts" by Bob Dylan- **
Tried to do a Punk Cover (all open chords 5ths) but worked out sub-par, and I forgot half the words, and my string broke... It's like I ACTUALLY FAILED THE SONG AS IF I WAS IN ROCK BAND...

"Clash City Rockers" by The Clash- GOLD
So I came back, and played this little number. First song I played was my last song at the Tabler Cafe open mic.

P.S. The Intervarsity Christian Fellowship lied to me there was no Open Mic it was last year. However, I DID find a new location to play at. So more on that later.

Workin' on my set list, with TWO original songs premiering. Wednesday I already have planned out, but Thursday, since it's hosted by the Inter Varstiy Christian Fellowship, I'll make a tweek or two.

White Hole Moon

THIS IS SANS SOLO. ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN- sorry- can provide a decent tutorial to do it I'd be grateful.

BLACK HOLE SUN

Now, in my advetures of copping out, here's what's played underneath the solo, or the RHYTHM section (in Drop D tuning):

A---3-2-0-2h3---------
D---------------5-4-3--

Repeat until the barely coherent screeching stops.

Other than that, simple song (from here):
e*----------12---------------------10------------13------------------------12----
B*------12------12----12-------11------------13------13----13----------12------
G*--12-------------12------12------------10-------------10------10/12----------

e*---------11---------------------10--------------------12----------10-----------11--
B*-----11------11----11-------10------10----10-----12----------12------------13---
G*-12-------------12------12-------------12------12-------12-10-------10-13-------

Damn Welfare Queens

This title will so give me google hits from hardcore conservatives. Maybe they can beat out the people looking for the Guitar Hero Arcade Setlist.

GIMME SHELTER

All right, I gotta come clean on this: I can't for the life of me ind an accurate tab for the second half of the first solo, and the entire second solo. NOT TO WORRY! Only maybe 5 notes from the pentonic scale:

E-------------------------9--12--
B--------------9---12------------
G-------9-11---------------------
D-9-11---------------------------

Blues inspired piece like these have fun solos. I'll tab it out eventually. BUT THAT WASN'T THE HARDEST PART!!!

The hardest part is the intro.
Part 1
Part 2

It's tricky, and way too much to explain here. But overall it's a very fun song to improvise with.

Wow...

It's like, the less I update, the more hits I seem to get.

Anyway, the reason I haven't updated as much recently is because I'm actually doing a bit of songwriting right now. Open Mic Night is April 15th, and I'm working toward that. "Gimme Shelter" is not too far off, I might have it for tomorrow.

Rock Boy Experiment

As of now, I've decided to change the tone of the RBExperiment.

Instead of covering Rock Band songs, and being about angry mean, hard music, I've turned over a new leaf. Instead of covering Rock Band and Guitar Hero songs, I'm doing Disney label music, with Top 40 songs.

Here's my setlist so far:
"A Little Bit Longer" by The Jonas Brothers
"Rockstar" by Nickelback
"Bye Bye Ball" by Hanna Montana

That's just for starters. I'll be adding some awesome Top 40 artists too like Riahanna, Lady Gaga, and even "Hey There Delialah" by The Plain White Ts!

And I have a Facebook page n-

Wait, April Fools was yesterday? DAMN IT!!

Go ahead, put a song suggestion in the comments if you want me to do a Top 40 cover.
