For example. you can program a basic collision detection code to get everything else moving, but until you find out stuff like "running in a corner accelerates your character so hard you go to another dimension",then you go back and fix that error.

-VR is the latest thing in gaming, so I guess we have to talk about it. Mystakin's fears of people messing with him while he's got the headset on are not unfounded, but he could just lock his door. There seems to be a lot of possible applications, but none that really necessitate it. It seems that the new wave in VR is attributed to "Hey, we can only make this thing KINDA expensive instead of STUPID expensive"

Yeah, but while Jeff goes to puzzles, mine goes to vacations and travel. If Second Life hadn't completely shit the bed, or if Dead Or Alive Extreme wasn't "yeah vacation simulator BUT DUDE CREEP ON THEM TITTIES" those would be the kind of games I want to see.

I think the things the Echo Crew as a collective don't want to see are scary-ass heights and drowning.
Like, that cat game looks scary as hell, but BROKEN when you step to either side and walk on the ledge like in cartoons.

The only place I'd want to do this is in VR:

-Navigating NY as a native New Yorker seems like the easiest thing in the world. Eventually you learn to make things relative to points on the subway and parse it our from there. In Manhattan all the streets and Avenues are numbered, so you have less than nothing to worry about. Same thing here in Florida, I base everything off of what exist it is off the 95.
-Giant Bomb VR Highlights:

-Jeff's VR Escape Room sounds really interesting. I'm very into the idea of cooperative type games where everyone is working with limited information such as SpaceTeam and Keep Talking..., and games that focus on deductive reasoning like Picross and Sudoku.

He mentioned where a person can only see in one spectrum, like infrared, but what about adding things like night vision/thermal goggles, or where one player doesn't look in front of them, but only looks at the rooms via security cam footage, who maybe has the power to lock/unlock doors?

So, here's how I'd scope it out:
Let's say, you're in a dark room. The player with thermal vision sees that there's a body lying on the floor in the room. He walks over to it, where he calls on the night vision goggles player to get a closer look. The body is inside a box on the floor, which is locked with a combination lock. The player with security camera vision can see that someone wrote down the code on the wall in the other room, so he relays it to the other players, Night Vision Goggles can see the lock, so he opens it up and finds a man slowly bleeding out, and has a switch on his body. They trigger the switch and feel a room "rumble". Thermal vision goggle player sees a flash go off, security camera player sees that a bomb has blown a hole in the wall in the other room, and the night vision goggle player looks for damage.

Quick hit, and Jeff is WAY better with puzzles, but it's a really good idea.

-When it comes to Furry Political Cartoons, this is the only one worth mentioning. THE ONLY ONE!

-Pokemon Snap is getting a version on the Wii U.... as a virtual console title. While it's not what we're all hoping for, any chance to revisit that old standby is fine by me!

-Tracer is essentially The Scout for Overwatch. She's the I'M A GUN FAST AND HAVE WUSSY GUNS! character. This was her "Over The Shoulder" victory pose originally:

This kind of thing shouldn't be regarded as "SJWS INFILTRATING VIDEO GAMES!", or "MAYBE SHE SHOULD WEAR A BURKA WOULD THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY FEMINANZIS?whatislogic", it should be seen as encouragement to always try something different. I'm the kind of guy who wishes we'd respond to every Tropes vs. Women video not with an hour-long video debunking every second as you sit in front of your fake skulls and Ayn Rand books, but with a "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED"

-Innuendo Strudios on Smash Bros:

-For some reason, in the early 2000s everybody's brains hemmoraged at the same time, and we all thought voice commands were a good idea. That resulted in Nintendo trying the microphone thing twice. Once with "Hey You Pikachu!" and again on the Gamecube. Also it gave us SOCOM: Navy Seals and Lifeline.

"Hey You Pikachu" I rented, and remember being super excited the first time it worked, because I was fucking 12 at the time. However, half the time it didn't work, and it was ridiculous to control. Apparently it was calibrated to higher pitched voices. The only other game that used the microphone accesory was a train simulator.


The two Gamecube games, "Mario Party 7" and "Odama" were in Nintendo's HOLY FUCK WE'RE DESPERATE Era before the Wii made a shitton of money. "Odama" was created by the same guy who did Seaman, which makes total sense. You were to direct a group of soldiers out of the way of a giant pinball it seemed to get middling reviews, and impressed people. Mario Party 7 is a Mario Party game later than 4.
Then came Lifeline and SOCOM. Both at least tried, but the latter pushed the multiplayer and the headset more than the voice commands. I think you could get extra information about your mission via the headset, but that's all.


-DANNY DEVITO PIKACHU WOULD BE THE BEST THING EVER!

Though lets face it, Nintendo will hire someone who can do a good Danny Devito Impression, and make no references to It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

-Inazuma 11 was an anime that aired between 2008 to 2011. It's a typical sports anime with a fresh faced kid looking to put together the best possible soccer team. What I want to know is how Jeff knows about it...

Currently it's tracking to succeed, with 25 days to go 25% of the way there. I think I speak for the group that we're all excited about it, but are waiting for a concrete go ahead.

Paolo's also got the right idea, archiving everything from the old system. In downtime, I've been working on the rest of the Dino Hunter MD: The Sound Track album for RBN.

It's not too tough to implements the same requirements for the RBN (Peer Review/Demo Phases/Etc), but because of how the Steam Workshop works, the profits would go to the user. Meaning that there is significatly less Peer Review and the system would be way easier to game.

I have professed my love for Janelle Monae in the past, but recently I got turned on to Estelle, who most people who know of her from he role as Garnet on the series "Steven Universe". She also sings the theme songs for that show and "We Bare Bears":


Why Estelle? Well, it recently came to my attention that she sang the song "American Boy" (feat. Kanye West), which is song that always seemed to show up in the background if I were in a public place long enough, recognized by it's sweet, airy chorus. Like most of those songs, the hook is recognizable, but I never had a title, artist or any other part to attribute to it.

I ALSO GOT GUITAR HERO LIVE!
So far, I'm enjoying it, but the new guitar layout takes some getting used to. The feature I'm making the most use out of is GHTV, and leaving it on in the background while I've been working on the album design stuff. The song list/GHTV setlist is very solid, with a lot of good recent songs, and a fuckton of indie songs that don't suck, so the list has been pleasant to play through.

Really, the main difference between the two games is the same as it always has been: GH for loners, Rock Band for party people, but it's imnportant to note that the latter has a backlog of over 1500 songs, and is committed to monthly updates. Rock Band is safe and sound, being very secure in the weekly DLC, and for Guitar Hero to continue, it needs to keep updating with adding more content to GHTV every week.

-The best way to describe the issue of Harmonix Employees posting reviews of their own game is "faux pax". It's embarassing, but in the long run, ultimately harmless. The "IT'S ABOUT ETHICS IN GAME JOURNALISM" crowd showed up a bit, but like we mentioned before, the issue died down within the day.

Main question is though: are the microtransactions working out for GHTV? Secondary question: How often and how many songs are they going to add to the DLC rotation. I remember in an interview the way their protocol is set up is that they can add a song once it gets popular on YouTube the same day.

So, for those chumps who don't know about Taskmaster, LEMME SSSSSSSPELL IT OUT FOR YOU!
Taskmaster is a villain within the Marvel Universe, typically hired as a mercenary. Blessed with the power of "photographic reflexes", he can imitate the movements of anyone he sees. He can throw his shield like Captian America, have the sick Kung Fu skills of Iron Fist, and can shoot arrow like Hawkeye. He then uses these skills to teach people how to be better henchmen so his pretty skull face doesn't get hurt.

In addition to that, he's also been known to use his skills for personal reasons (learning how to cook, play guitar, etc.) for macking on the fly honeys. So, he could have used his gift to be in a great rock n' roll band, or win dance competitions, but instead he's like "FUCK THAT NOISE, I'MA PUT ON TIGHTS AND BEAT UP SUPERHEROES"

-FRIDAY THE 13th KICKSTARTER

Not going to lie, it looks pretty decent. It seems between this and Until Dawn, video game devs have a thing for murdering teenagers... HMMM....

Another similar game was on Kickstarter around this time last year, called (oddly enough) Last Year, with a similar premise: X on 1 gameplay vs. a killer.


However from the descriptions, it seems that Last Year seems to be taking more of its cues from Evolve with different characters as different classes, where as the 13th, will be more on just surviving.

-The Angry Video Game Nerd has certainly mellowed out since the early days, with James Rolfe moving away from the character. However, the reason why the original AVGN managed to survive as opposed to all the Johnny-Come-Latelys and the PISSED OFF GAMESMASHERS of the world is that his love of making movies shines through. THIS SHOULD HAVE REALLY BEEN OBVIOUS

-OK, so as I mentioned last week, I do these things by working of general headlines and then writing about them. However, think of of this as my "For Those Of You Further Behind" look at Rock Band 4, since I picked it up THE DAY after we recorded that Episode.

-For some reason, I had this in my Bookmarks Folder to put on this week:

-Right, so I've been a little back on forth on RB4, and while it's still Rock Band, I still have this dialogue going on in the back of my head. The setlist isn't as big, bbut they're an indepentent studio now and can't pull in anything else. Customization options are barren, but the models look REALLY GOOD, and the venues, while missing the crazy effects I loved playing around with in the RBN days, make the venues feel more real.

The main complaint I hear is that "It was rushed to beat Guitar Hero to the market." I can see that, but it's like "When would they release it?" Another couple months might not have been enough to add anything significant, and waiting another year would be too long. To release it OTHER than the holiday season would be ridiculous. DLC exports have been spotty, and are slowly coming together, but I can still download all my old songs for FREE, and have even discover new ones.

All that said, Rock Band 4 is still worth playing because the Rock Band experience has ALWAYS been worth playing.

-Confession, I left my notes at work, so I'll try to remember exact topics we talked about:

-The Voting System: I've always been for this, and limiting my options to what songs I can pick keeps me from picking the same song, and has my exploring the setlist. I've only played by myself so far, so it's been more of a multiple choice test than a band feature.

-Freestyle Solos: As of right now, not a fan. It's a great idea, but it's off JUST enough that I shut them off, since I need to double check my calibration. Also, I'm playing by myself right now, so I'm more in the RAGH MUST PLAY GAME then the FUCK YEAH PARTY TIME mode.

-Tour Mode: Love it! Other than the really-not-there character creation options, it's an entertaining enough mode to play through.

For each tour you go out on, there's a decision you make beforehand. For example, "Do you buy a van with what little you have or do you let your uncle manage you?" which all boils down to stuff like "$$$ vs. Fans" or "Pick your own setlist vs. have it chosen for you". That's standard, but what I like is each little story that happens in between each decision. For example, before one of my shows in the loading screen text, Uncle Tony said that he's an awesome business man with dealings in the condiment business. Next show, he mentioned something about striking a deal. For my last show on the tour, my band was wearing "GRANDMA STAPLETON'S HORSERADISH SAUCE" tees. Nice little touch.

-Setlist surprises: "Your Love" by The Outfield. Always a one hit wonder, but it's a great 80's pop-rock song.

-OK, let's go over the breakdown again:
I'm Deadpool. I started the analogy, and I'm usually behind 99% of the non-sequiters on the show.

Cable and Wolverine are the most regularly featured characters in Deadpool stories, and alternatively to what I said in the podcast, Jeff could be Wolverine, since he's hairier and drinks a lot, and Arcanon would be Cable since he's handled way more guns. Meaning he's handled at least one gun. And he's younger, so it's technically like he's from the future.


Owen is Blind Al, Deadpool's roomate/prisoner. She's always the butt of his jokes, though she goes over way more often, representing how he always ignores our request to put music in.

John would be Weasel, informant/arms dealer, but now that I think about it, he'd probably be like the Great Lakes Avengers, since he only showed up that one time.

Anime Cow would be Ajax: relevant long ago, and featured prominently in an important storyline, but is a non entity.

Mystakin would be Taskmaster, since he and Deadpool always make for good storylines (the Eric and Erich show)

-According to HMK, the Nintendo World Championship prequalifiers will be Ultimate NES Remix, for the games Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and Dr. Mario. One of the qualifiers is in Miami, so I might try to get my brother to go, but that would involves waking up on the weekend, so I doubt he'd be down for that.

-The day after this episode aired I had to leave work early (hit my 40 hours), so I was able to catch some of the IGN stream, and here's some tiddles and bits:

-Footage was a little choppy, but it was still in Pre-Alpha. It looked great, though.  -During downtime in certain sections of songs (no vocals/bass/etc.), you can vote for the next song in general categories (70's song, songs with female vocalists, David Bowie), and everything seemed to work right off the bat, as they played a lot of older songs.Seemed to work really well, and the random element could help people rediscover songs they didn't know they had.
-They seem to be playing up the "live show" aspect by making the vocalist say things like "HEY BOSTON" or "ARE YOU READY FOR MORE?" before the next set of songs starts. Seemed to slow things down, unless that's how they hide loading, but hopefully that will be made more relevant as we find more details.

10 NEW Bands Who I'd Curbstomp Babies To See In Rock Band 4

So like I did last week with returning bands, I'm doing with bands that haven't had a song debut in Rock Band, Guitar Hero or Rocksmith yet. This cancels out some I wanted to do like The Misfits, but these should be reasonable.

1. THE AQUABATS 

The ONLY downside I can see with the Aquabats is that the loss of keys hurts some of the songs, but there's plenty straight rock songs in their library that would fit in well. Plus, their stock is rising with The Aquabats Super Show and Yo Gabba Gabba! so the younger kids will be familiar the everyone's rock and roll superheroes!
If Harmonix ever has a brain hemmorage and releases Lego Rock Band 2, The Aquabats should be front and center!

2. DAFT PUNK

Another band that feels the loss of the keys, but there's still workarounds, it just requires very liberal interpretations of "guitars" and "vocals". Maybe not on disc songs, but it's time for add some Robots to Rock Band.

3. FOXY SHAZAM

With operatic vocals that could give Freddie Mercury a run for his money and the energy of nine coke-fiends crammed into 5 guys, Foxy Shazam is a rock band in every sense of the word, who's soujnd has changed enough over the years to give a wide variety of play styles. You want thrashy, trashy and in your face? Go with something off of their album "Introducing Foxy Shazam". Harder rock? 2012's "The Chruch Of Rock and Roll". Found out that you don't have a lo9t of hard songs on vocals? Anything off of 2010's self titled album will have the guy with the mic putting in A LOT Of work.

4. JANELLE MONAE

Have I mentioned I fucking love Janelle Monae? Another artist that bounces all over the place with genres, Cindi Mayweather captures the more mellow side rock, while adding in a ton of funk and hip-hop influences, which Rock Band is sorely lacking. A few of the songs on RB3 that tried to fall into this category were either too spastic or too easy. No keys is a bit of a loss, but depending on the track, you wouldn't even notice it. Any vocalist worth their salt should be begging to have these songs included.

5. JAPANDROIDS

Imagine if the Black Keys got their influences from Arena Rock, and you'd have a pretty good idea of The Japandroids. It's really good "Drive With The Windows Open" music that's plenty of fun for the whole group.

6. THE PROTOMEN

The Protomen make concept albums based off of Mega Man and try to sound as 80s as fuck while doing that. If that sentence alone doesn't convince you, let me repeat it: The Protomen make concept albums based off of Mega Man and try to sound as 80s as fuck while doing that.Keys are missing, but we can still give it the old college try, right? RIGHT?

7. REEL BIG FISH

While "Beer" might not be the most "family-friendly" song from the Boston ska band, it's the song that suffers the least from losing the keys. Like most ska (see "This Gigantic Robot Kills"), the bass is challenging, and the small licks on the lead guitar keep the mostly chord focused song interesting to play. Also, "Beer" was MADE for harmonies. It has "Whoa-oh-oh" part! Bitches love "Whoa-oh-oh" parts!

 8. BOWLING FOR SOUP

We have "Nerd Rock" in Rock Band with "Still Alive" by Glados, Brony music and Kirby Krackle, but we need more "Dork Rock" and Rhythm Bastard, while awesome and cool and talented and well endowed, it's JUST NOT ENOUGH. Bowling for Soup are a bunch dorks that make some really sweet pop-punk, and everyone's guarantee to know AT LEAST 1985.

9. WALK THE MOON

I'm really surprised these guys haven't had a Top 40 hit yet. Hopefully by the time RB4 comes out they will have gained some mianstream attention, but it could still be an opportunity for Harmonix to be kingmakers.

10. THE WOMBATS

Another alternative rock band that's been around for a while, but only managed one radio hit recently. The accent and British Pop Culture references my throw a couple vocalists off, but the relentless energy makes up for it.

Yo, I legit cried at work when I saw this news. Rock Band has been the focal point of so much for the past ALMOST decade, and it's coming back.

-While I have to get an Xbone, and I've got a lot of games in my backlog for 360, I guess it can be my Rock Band AND Magic: Duels Of The Planeswalkers machine.

If I can draft in this new MTG game, I'd be SO HYPED YOU GUYS.

-The downloadable Rock Band thing would only make sense if there's backwards comparability with instruments and DLC. But hopefully this is going to be HUGE in brick and mortar store if its to be successful.

-YUGIOH PRO is a FREE PROGRAM. Between this and Duel Network, YuGiOh has Magic and Pokemon TCG BEAT when it comes to "free thing I can play and test decks on".

Cockatrice is fine to test decks on, but the fact that Wizards of the Coast has slowly been hovering on the "DETONATE" button regarding that program, makes it way less convenient.

10 Songs from Returning Bands I Want To See In Rock Band 4

YEAH! I have non-me stuff to post about again! With Rock Band returning as the best way to enjoy music with your friends, let's celebrate with 10 returning bands I'd like to see in the next Rock Band installment. NOTE: I tried to stay away from songs that weren't ALREADY in either Guitar Hero or Rocksmith.

1. THE WHO- Anything Off Quadrophenia

The Who have been on every Rock Band disc release, and the fourth installment should be no different. While there's no denying the greatness of "Who's Next", earlier albums still have a lot to offer. While not THE earliest, their second rock opera Quadrophenia has a few good selections, namely the lead track, "The Real Me", previously featured in Fantasia: Music evolved, one of Harmonix's prior releases. Guitar's a little simple, but bassists and drummers will have a hell of a challenge, while vocalists can belt this one out.

2. MUSE- "Panic Station"

The OTHER obvious band, it's hard to pick just ONE Muse song, because we're losing keys, and I'm trying to be original, so Knights of Cydonia is out. As this is one of their newer songs of the 2nd Law, it's less likely to be claimed any time soon. Slow, simple, but with a lot of force, I say MOAR MUSE.

3. BLACK SABBATH- "Neon Knights"

The people need to know the glory of Dio Sabbath. It's like the difference between Bon Scott and Brian Johnson AC/DC: The band's entire sound changed. The wicked guitar solo and fast riffs are going to be legendarily difficult, with the raw speed of the song keeping the bass and drum sections lively. Hopwever, it's Dio's operatic vocals that elevate this into a MUST LISTEN.

4. ROLLING STONES- "Jumpin' Jack Flash"

"Sympathy for the Devil" ALMOST won out this one, but again, it was in Guitar Hero 5, so the best Not On Rocksmith. Also, we lose a LOT on that song by getting rid of keys. Anything else was already used in another game, but Jumpin' Jack Flash was conspicuously absent. That doesn't mean it's a bad song by any stretch, it's just that it seems Elite Beat Agents was the only rhythm game to give it the level it deserved. The Rolling Stones will always be known by Mick and Keef, but the bass on this song harmonizes well, and certainly won't be dull.

5. HARVEY DANGER- "Flagpole Sitta"

A.K.A. The Harvery Danger Song We Wanted In The First Place. Now imagine this on harmonies and drums.

6. THE FRATELLIS- "Chelsea Dagger" 


 A.K.A. The Fratellis Song We Wanted In The First Place. It'll fill that "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" sized hole that's called "Yeah, I think I heard this in a beer commercial a few times". Technically it was on the Guitar Hero for the DS, but that doesn't count cause that game sucked.


7. SQUEEZE- "Pulling Mussels From a Shell"

We actually got a couple decent Squeeze songs already, "Tempted" as DLC, and "Cool For Cats" In RB2 are both fine selections, but when I would listen to nothing but their Singles album while playing Deadly Premonition, I really got turned on to them. They're a really good band, and there's plenty that would make great DLC, but this is there best known of the songs we haven't done yet. Other reccomendations: "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Goodbye Girl"

8. ELECTRIC SIX- "Formula 409"

Because "Danger! High Voltage!" was too obvious.

9. MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE- "House Of Wolves"

Name ONE instrument this wouldn't rule on! I was going to pick "Dead!", but that was in GH2, and "Party Poison" just isn't as intense as this song. Both would be good mind you, but I'm limiting myself to this one song. Though "Vampire Money" off of Danger Days does have a Big Rock Ending... Screw it, I just want some more MCR.


10. BRAD PAISLEY- "Mr Policeman"

Country always gets a bad rap and the Country Packs are always looked down with scorn, but their instrumentation has the potential to WRECK YOUR FUCKING SHIT.  The guitar is relentless, the bass has that southern trait of "constantly fucking moving" and and the drums are always rolling. I don't think this song has one break in it. Yeah, there's a keyboard part at the end, but it's not TOO huge a loss. "Panic Attack"? "Freebird"? "Green Grass and High Tides"? "Through The Fire And Flames" FUCK THOSE ASSHOLES! Brad Paisley demolishes your ass in under 6 and a half minutes.

Most of the times when I come back from playing a con, I'm happy, if a little stressed. I hung out, played a gig, everything's good.

When I got back from PAX East, I was inspired. Between all the indie games, bands, Telltale's Keynote, Penny Arcade's Q and A, the cosplays, and the sheer volume of people with their own tastes and meeting people who's lives are tangential to mine, I'm psyched for tomorrow to begin so I can come home an continue work on the album/DTK song/other shit.

So before I get to that- SHIT YEAH!!! ROCK BAND 4!!!!

I've got enough for a pretty sweet con recap video that might be a short film, but here's some quick recaps:

Easier to start with the Bad:
-Only there two days.
-Boston is COLD. 
-GETTING THERE. Arcanon was snowed in his house on Thursday, and we weren't sure if he would be able to make it. Without him, I wouldn't have any tickets. Fortuenately, he was able to get there later on Friday, and I was able to get a ticket beforehand.
 -Missing Markiplier's autograph signing for my brother and Paolo's.
-Not being able to go to the Harmonix Party.

It was the exact opposite of bad, mind you. This is stuff I didn't GET to do, but overall I'm satisfied with what I did.

Now the good:
-Not only did Paolo manage to beat Tennesse in its stupid snowy face, he arrived at the con JUST as me and Jeff were about to go on the Rock Band stage.
-Many selfies
-Seeing Freezepop and Paul and Storm in concert.
-Jeff will be shipping me an autogrpahed copy of Deadly Premontion
-Playing some Magic Drafts, pulling 6 rares in one.
-Getting some AWESOME swag, namely the exclusive MTG and Rock Band 4 pins.
-Confirmation that the new Amplitude game will be dope as fuck.
-Indie game "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" is a worthwhile experience that can oly be done in this environment and was totally worth it.
-Finally subscribing to an IndieBox.
-Seeing Birdman on the plane ride over
-Epic Speed-runs of Oregon Trail.
-Coming in the Top 4 in a THPS 2 competition.
-Magic The Gathering Panel AND THE RETURN TO ZENDIKAR!
-Handing out business cards
-DC Deck Building Game is worth all the hype. 
-Seeing Podcast homies.

-Being at PAX East in general :D
