Status Quo Sunday is Really Just Black Friday on Rhythm Bastard Time

This week's jam:

I have professed my love for Janelle Monae in the past, but recently I got turned on to Estelle, who most people who know of her from he role as Garnet on the series "Steven Universe". She also sings the theme songs for that show and "We Bare Bears":

Why Estelle? Well, it recently came to my attention that she sang the song "American Boy" (feat. Kanye West), which is song that always seemed to show up in the background if I were in a public place long enough, recognized by it's sweet, airy chorus. Like most of those songs, the hook is recognizable, but I never had a title, artist or any other part to attribute to it.

ENOUGH OF THAT, NEW SHIT!
Chibi Pa 2015 Recap Video is out!

This one is done (relatively) on time! Unfortunatley, there are a lot of costumes I wanted to feature, but couldn't for timesake (I shoot for under 3 minutes)

PHYSICAL COPIES OF STATUS QUO RADIO ARE COMING!
And they'll be (hopefully) available at Holiday Matsuri! This took way to long to get done, because of internet screwups and everything, and I was going to include some ARG type stuff, but they're coming out, it's going to be very cool, I've been working really hard on all of this, and learning a SHITTON of Photoshop.

I ALSO GOT GUITAR HERO LIVE!
So far, I'm enjoying it, but the new guitar layout takes some getting used to. The feature I'm making the most use out of is GHTV, and leaving it on in the background while I've been working on the album design stuff. The song list/GHTV setlist is very solid, with a lot of good recent songs, and a fuckton of indie songs that don't suck, so the list has been pleasant to play through.

Really, the main difference between the two games is the same as it always has been: GH for loners, Rock Band for party people, but it's imnportant to note that the latter has a backlog of over 1500 songs, and is committed to monthly updates. Rock Band is safe and sound, being very secure in the weekly DLC, and for Guitar Hero to continue, it needs to keep updating with adding more content to GHTV every week.

Victory Over The Status Quo On Sunday

This weeks jam is... oh... oh... oh........
Wow... Friday the 13th was a son of a bitch... When you have to #PrayFor six different countries, you wonder who fell asleep at the wheel.

-Been out the past week or so because Comcast is Comcast and comcast is awful. I was ready to have CDs on sale, but I wasn't able to submit designs.

-Chibi Pa was the BIGGEST thing going on this weekend. My set took place in what was dubbed "The Society Lounge" which was a little nightclub style place with lots of different kinds of seating with a bar in the back. Wasn't a bad place to play, and the sound was on point. Still need to get used to actually singing more better.

Set went good, premiered a new song, that went good, and I got to drink a lot!

HIGHLIGHTS!
-Seeing all the familiar faces again! From people I've featured in Recap Videos, to So Flo Con Bros, to people who've seen my shows before to SS Hanami who hosted a Koto and Wine Party and played on the days I wasn't there.

-APPARENTLY I DON'T KNOW HOW A SELFIE STICK WORKS SORRY JAMES

-Werewolf looks to be the thinking man's version of Cards Against Humanity in that it's the hip new card game to play, and there's actually something a thinking man can work with.

For those of you further behind, Werewolf is a game for a around 8+ people, where villagers try to find a werewolf among them, and the wolf has to kill everyone else. There are other roles like the Bodyguard who can save a player if a werewolf targets them, or the seer who can point out werewolves.

It's great, because who doesn't love a good mystery? If you have a good GM, it's a lot of fun.

However, what would seem like an interesting logic puzzle devolves into people throwing around random accusations for various reasons, since there's nothing for people to go on in the early stages. For example, I was singled out because of my chest hair.

There is a One Night version, where there's a lot of switching roles and everything, and that works because there's only one night, so the goal is the main focus, and there's less fucking around.

-Also on the events was a "Hentai Variety Show". Now, part of me was expecting the worst, because the only other "Hentai" panel I was at was a "Dub That Hentai", which was jackasses yelling over porn.

This was the opposite because it was good, and funny, and entertaining in which everyone had a fun time. Basically, it was a crowdsourced burlesque show, with a striptease/cosplay contest, where both genders went after the top prize with gusto. Though I think the winner for the men might have been a professional. Or at least practiced.

WILL YOUR DUMBASS BE LATE WITH THIS CHIBI PA RECAP VIDEO?
... Later than usual.... I do have Ultracon this weekend and a bunch of other stuff on my plate, so hopefully I can get some free time.

-Oh, and I went 4-0 at FNM. NBD

-New song is coming.... SOON. I got some feedback on the mix and playing with the EQ a bit, lots of little things I might not have known otherwise. I'm having cover art done by ciphir on Tumblr, who's in the bizness of mking some really funny MtG related stuff.

So, when both those elements come together, I'll make a post about it, and you'll have some sweet new tunes to listen to. Until then, I'm going to be at Ultracon!

A Sampler Of Status's To Quo

This week's jam is CRAZY FRESH, yo:

Summer Games Done Quick is going on, and I wanted to play a song that's both summery, and has to do with running. Currently, there's a race for Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. It's weird, finding more than one person who gave a shit about that game. It's weird to see that Naughty Dog went from that, to Jak and Daxter to Uncharted, the DEFINITION of polish.

The song doesn't feature Cee-Lo Green's vocals very well, but he's able to convey the right urgency for the song, while still sounding good. For something similar, look to the bridge of "Fuck You" when he screams "WHYYY LAAADY?"

Danger Mouse drops the beats like it's 1979 up in here, and while the hook isn't as memorable as "Crazy", it's punchy to go with Cee-Lo's golden selling of every line.

ENOUGH MUSIC TALK, TIME FOR SOME ANIME BULLSHIT!

CHIBI-PA SAMPLER TIME MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

HOW DOPE WAS CHIBI-PA?
It was pretty good! For a small con, it felt big, and it was crowded. Dead after the costume contest, but before then it was poppin'. Saw 80% of my So-Flo con bros, and if my Dad didn't fuck it up too bad, I've got some video footage!

For $5, you got pretty much you'd get some panels, a game room, a cosplay contest and a dance, all of which convientiently located next to a bar with a hotel. Oops, did I say that wrong?

This was a "sampler" for the main Chibi-Pa Show in November. No details have been announced on THAT yet, but I know last year they had a pretty good lineup for a smaller show.

The only thing missing was a tabletop room, but from what I heard, it was a last minute cut on the venue. If this is a clue to what Chibi-Pa will be like in November, I'm down!

I also remember it's been a while since I updated the Flickr account, so I'll probably post stuff from that when I get some free time, or am not sleepy.

All I can say is, NOW I AM SO PUMPED FOR ORLANDO NERD FEST!!!

Also, Hulk Hogan said some REALLY racist shit recently, and WWE has been going to great lengths to scrub him from the records. We're talking "WE WERE ALWAYS AT WAR WITH EURASIA!!!" type shit with possibly the biggest sports star of the 80's.

When I first heard this news, It was in the context of a radio interview he did where he was telling a story about hanging around Booker T, Timaland, and the producers for his daughter Brooke's album, all saying "My Ni--a", and he started copying them, and my first thought was, "It's bad, but not that bad. It could get him in some trouble, but the WWE has done much worse"

Then the actual words came out.

Yeah, saying "I am a racist" then dropping the N-Bomb is indefensible. Given that he's worked with so many black wrestlers and had black fans over the years and says that is mind-boggling.

This was said in a private conversation, that Hogan may or may not have been aware that was recorded, so he was probably more candid and looser than in "everyday life", but this was still a major screwup.

You know what fixes screwups? Admitting to it.
You know what REALLY fixes screwups? Learning from the messing up.

To end this on a slightly better note, new song this Sunday!
For those of you lucky enough to come to my Chibi-Pa Show, you'll see what it is.
All I'm saying is, I predate all of NateWantsToBattle's songs by about 40 years.

Status Quo Sunday THE FIGHTENING

MAHVEL BABY!

So I got Twitch on my PC, the WWE Network App on my Xbox, and I have to be at work 5:30 AM tomorrow. Yeah, sounds like an average week.

Battleground was OK, John Cena vs. Kevin Owens was a pretty good fight, as well as the ending with Rollins vs. Lesnar. The NXT DIVALUTION TAKEOVER match was also nothing to sneeze at, with Charlotte winning, as a fateful reminder of A. The current Women's Division Status Quo (TM) on the main roster and B. The fact that I haven't been keeping up with NXT stuff.

EVO Was beyond nuts, where America got its ass kicked 3 ways till Monday. Stayed fior the MvC3 finals, where Hulk smashed, and Hulk smashed A LOT.

This is going up on Monday, can't you tell?

Right, on with the show!

OR SHOULD I SAY SHOWS???
Updated the sidebar with both of my upcoming shows. I'm going to be debuting a new song at Chibi Pa Sampler, and ANOTHER new one at Orlando Nerd Fest.

Hopefully I can get videos of those performances, and make them as awesome as possible!

KICKSTARTER UPDATES:
I'm shooting for August 1st. The art for the rewards is almost done, and this week I'm sending out the newsletter so that you all can see the cool stuff I've got going on, so y'all can get thirsty.

MUSIC NEWS:
This Friday will see the official release of an early demo, next week is the version of my Chibi Pa song, and the next one is the song the one I'm debuting at Orlando Nerd Fest.

Ambien's kicking in,see you next time!

Status Quo Sunday Remembers Iwata, Then Gives It To Ya

First the bad news: President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata just died.  The man was nothing short of awesome. He was an amazing programmer, and his accomplishments include helping debug Super Smash Bros Melee to make its release date, rebuilding Earthbound from scratch in record time, porting the Pokemon battle system from the Game Boy Games to the Nintendo 64 for Pokemon Stadium, AND compressing Pokemon Gold and Silver to fit the Kanto region in there.

On top of all of that, when the Wii U wasn't meeting sales expectations, he cut his salary in half so that his employees wouldn't feel the burden. Can you imagine an AMERICAN CEO doing that, let alone one in the gaming industry?

RIP Iwata.

This week's jam:

Sigh...

I saw the leaked Deadpool trailer. I didn't want to see it, go in fresh, and let the movie impress me... but I really liked what I saw.

I read the leaked script, so I was expecting a couple of the story beats, save for the ONE NEW CHARACTER, but it looks like there will be enough to surprise me. Also, I didn't hear the word Chimichanga ONCE, so while they're leaning hard on being an over-the-top R-Rated action/comedy, there will be no Waypool.

For those of you further behind, Waypool refers to writer Daniel Way, who wrote the character for most of the late 2000's. Now imagine someone wrote Deadpool based on cosplayers and 4chan "Best Of" Posts from 4chan's /b/ board. Not /co/ where you might get some discussion, but /b/.

Also, it was announced that Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness, the team behind the first year of Deadpool's first ongoing series, will come back to write a Deadpool/Spiderman series.

Now, for the bad news: President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata just died.

OK, Rhythm Bastard News!

MUSIC/MAGIC NEWS:
Played at my prerelase! Went 1-2 and dropped.

My "Try To Write Something, Anything During Lunch Break" is working out pretty good. Should have new stuff soon. I wanted to finish my Origins Rap, but I might just put up my section for Jace as a little preview. The verse is ready to go, but I still need to find 3 female MCs (not a lot of people there), who play Magic (a very limiting Venn Diagram)

KICKSTARTER NEWS:
Art times fun times! The poster design is being worked on and looking spectacular, and my T-shirt design is in the beginning stages. Once those are finished and I nail down the budget, we'll go live!

Basically the main theme of this week is that I'm finally committing things to paper, and at least it's better than me talking in generalities.

UPCOMING SHOWS:
It's almost midnight, and I want to do this by Sunday, BUT next week I'll hopefully have more details regarding my shows. Sometime throughout the week, I'll update the sidebar and send out a newsletter.

Status Quo Sunday's Ten Lessons Learned.

Album's going strong, a little ahead of the game, so, let's look back 2014!

Cesaro's on RAW and he's talking about how-

Oh, right. Um, something relevant... OK-

MY TOP 10 (IN NO ORDER) CONVENTIONS OF 2014! (and the lessons learned)

1. Sands Of Anime
Location is everything. It was by this really nice, beautiful beach, and with some time, it could be a destination con, ala Umicon Daytona. But, they also put the music act opposite the voice actor panels. And the merch tables were out of the way.

2. Miami Hurricon
BRING A FUCKING MIC STAND.

3. Omni Expo
Never underestimate the power of a good connection. I met up with a lot of people there, who I would go on to work with and become good friends with, such as the guys from Orlando Nerd Fest and Sci-Fried, DJ RoboRob (who's producing Status Quo Radio), and Geekapella.

Also, KNOW WHAT DATES OTHER THINGS ARE AT.

4. Hero Hype Con
Learning from your mistakes. Hero Hype Con picked up the slack, and knowing what to expect and being prepared for anything, let me perform better. Also, I got a really sweet spot, before the cosplay competition.

5. Anime Festival Orlando
You don't need to hustle 100%. I feel like I need to at these things, but I was having way more fun once I settled down and played some Magic The Gathering. Really, A LOT of Magic The Gathering, lol. My concert went well, but again, cons are supposed to be fun, and I don't have to be on the clock.

 6. Creator Owned Expo
Supporting the little guy feels really good, and as I'm watching RAW, it reminds me of the benefit of putting guys over. Which they don't do on RAW. Be like Ron (Kerronian, head of COE), not RAW.

7. Orlando Nerd Fest
Hard work feels great when it pays off. Like Creator Owned Expo, it feels really good putting guys over, and when that person does the same to you (like what MC Lars did to me), the feeling is euphoric.

8. Umicon Music Initative
Act like you never made a mistake. A string broke, I was inbetween two other acts, and I only had so much time left. I just translated everything and went along with it, and became EVEN MORE OF A DORK.

AARON DISMUKE, I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!!!

9. Chibi Pa: Suki Desu
Putting the artists alley infront of the Dealer's Room is a REALLY smart idea, and it's almost TOO obvious to think of.

I was also going to put something here about good turns deserving another, as when I lent my amp to the staff to borrow for an event, fate rewarded me with Andrew from S.S. Hanami helping me out on drums, but con organizers should also take note of this list.

10. UltraCon
Putting the panels and what times they're at RIGHT OUTSIDE THE PANEL ROOMS is another REALLY good idea.

But, there's also another bonus lesson here: Know your limits. I'm not at the point where I'm marketable enough yet to where I can sell merch at cons via table. I'm a hard sell; original content in an environment based off of fandom.

So I'm going to be less aggressive in trying to snag cons this year. I'm definitely not quitting, but I'm not going to shotgun everything, and waste money on tables and stuff like that. I might even try to snag some small shows on Clematis Street, like a REAL musician.

It's a big world out there, and 2015 is going to be a big year.

Huh, my birthday's on a Sunday this year....

The Electric Status Quo Sunday

CHIBI PA RECAP VIDEO!

Fun fact: The guy who was Bojack Horseman was also the Hulk from my Hero Hype Con video.

JANELLE MONAE'S BIRTHDAY!

Can we talk about her for a second? Every time I look at her, I think “That’s the kind of thing I want to do!”
It’s earnest music wrapped up in something fantastic. You can tell there’s a method to her madness, looking at the videos like “Many Moons” and “Primetime”, which are mini sci-fi movies.

In the process of making Status Quo Radio (my Team Fortress 2 inspired concept album), The Electric Lady has become one of the biggest inspirations; an album the rocks, an album that rolls, an album that takes you to another place for a little while.

-The album? MORE SONGS BEING TRACKED! MORE COVER ART... ARTED! This thing is actually starting to take shape, and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm working with three awesome dudes making this all work right, so the end product can be something I'm proud of.

Status Quo Sunday: Suki Desu

Let's pretend that I wrote this on Sunday so I don't have to address the absolute MOUNTAIN of bullshit that happened on Monday, and that is currently underway. I'm reblogging all kinds of relevant shit on my Tumblr, so if you're looking for that, PLENTY to keep you occupied.

OK CHIBI-PA, YAY!!! First time going, and glad that it was another SoFlo con, since it only took me an hour to get home. Overall, I'd say it was very well done, if the reg lines were a little long.

-Brought the house down with a turn on "American Idiot" on the Karaoke machine. The crowd was HYPED.

-"Force Of Dragons" was a hit, BUT a bit too long, and my crowds aren't mosh-worthy yet.

-Goldeneye 007 for $13? HELL YEAH! I'm probably going to stream it, like all the other things I promised I'd stream. Totally you guys.

-Managed to run into someone I played Magic with one time at Wizard's Tower in Stuart, and get a few games in.  Also tried out a new TCG called Conjure. It's not as pick up and play as Magic, but it was an interesting experience.

-Deb, who was one of the liasons, was REALLY NICE and made sure everything went well. She also told me a story of that one time she saw Nine Inch Nails open up for Iggy Pop.

-S.S. Hanami were solid dudes as usual, and Andrew, the drummer did a rendition of "Pass The Class" with me! I have thought about getting a backup band to help me out at certain cons...

-I got ZifProd to record video! Again, expect that when the time comes.

ALBUM TIME! I've offically sent in my first track to be mixed and mastered. THe artwork is under way, and I'm currently focusing on building a buffer so that my last couple tracks can be recorded without a hassle, so for the next few months, it's all hard wok for me.

Until UltraCon that is...
