PODCAST RECAPS FOR 2/11/2017: Sad, Old Men

ECHO CHAMBER EPISODE 196

-OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?!?

-Apparently Scrath and Sniuff actually existed:

Sounds exactly as good as you imagine a hair metal band in the 90's would sound.

-Online Play I couldn't get to work, but I'm glad it's there with all the features we mentioned. Namely the "all members get one song".

-As someone coming off a Game Jam, most of what happens when making a game comes from the testing, more so then the coding. For example. you can program a basic collision detection code to get everything else moving, but until you find out stuff like "running in a corner accelerates your character so hard you go to another dimension",then you go back and fix that error.

Like the old proverb, "Most Writing Comes In The Editing"

-I'M A GOOFY GOOBER!

I'D RATHER NOT EPISODE 45

-The Lee Harvey Oswalds DO exist, and I have more likes on Facebook then them and I'm a slightly better singer than them.

-YOU'RE FAKE NEWS OWEN

-The "We're gong to call you fake news until you stop attacking us" is a real thing, sadly.

-Adolf Hitler was born in 1889. If you bang in 1910s Germany, you could pop out Eva Braun. She's not a leader, though so chances are you're popping out the modern day equivalent of a modern day millennial.

-Here's John Howland's Wikipedia page, since this podcast will be the most anyone's ever thought about him.

-This the Zero Escape Timeline. Some highlights:
  • (1904) In April, copies of Phi and Delta arrive (presumably in Germany or Europe) via transporter from 2029 following D-END 2.
  • (1905) Ten months after arriving by transporter, another copy of Phi is sent to 2008.
  • (December 25, 2028) - In California, Sigma is knocked out by Soporil in his car. His consciousness is pushed to January 25, 2074, and his 68-year-old consciousness occupies his body in the present time. Phi's consciousness also switches places with her future consciousness. Akane joins Sigma and Phi, but her consciousness isn't from the future so she hasn't experienced the Radical-6 outbreak. The three of them infiltrate the Mars Mission Test Site (Dcom) in Nevada after using Crash Keys to hack the admin server to include them. Six others have joined the Dcom experiment for their own reasons: Junpei, Mira, Eric, Carlos, Diana, and Q
  • (January 27, 2074) Akane has been wearing K's armor. K is revealed to be Kyle, a clone of Sigma, who has been kept in cold sleep since the beginning of the Nonary Game in this timeline. Sigma learns that his body is 67 years old, but his consciousness is from the past. Akane attacks Phi with the Myrmidon knife, making Phi and Sigma's consciousness jump back to the past to April 13th, 2029.

PODCAST RECAPS FOR 8/27/2016: 750 Posts!

I'd Rather Not fans get a double dose this week!

I'D RATHER NOT EPISODE 24

-Babymaker can be purchased here.

-Here's the game I designed. HINT HINT!

-What they have at Disney now is FastPass+, where after you register, you can select FastPasses for 30 days in advance, or if you're staying at a hotel, it's 60 days in advance. The thing that sucks is that they limit you to 3 FastPasses.

Universal has a better option if you're a Florida Resident like me, so you can buy an Annual Pass, and then an unlimited Express Pass, which is valid every day your normal admission is valid. The downside is, you live in Florida.

-Mickey Mouse as proven himself to be vengeful:

-Ben's scheme has to be in one of the top 10 Most Harebrained Schemes in I'd Rather Not

-DROP THE BEAT:

-OH SHIT HERE COME DAT MOUSE!!!!

-TAKE IT AWAY DON HENLEY"

-I've got some backup against Jon Stewart...

AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!

If I can guarantee that we can get some fallout on RAW the next night I'm good.

-Owen's provision of preventing us from starving to death is a lot like AM in "I Have No Mouth I Must Scream", where he keeps his survivors from starving to death so he can continue torturing the five survivors.

-I'm kind of honored how I'm the crew's ideal of a "buff guy".

Status Quo Wednesday: Does No Man's Sky and Stranger Things Take Place In The Same Universe?

https://s3.amazonaws.com/stranger-things/rhythm-bastard.png

MIZUCON!!!
Working my ass off to get my set perfect for this weekend. If you were at Mini Iwai, you heard a new song I've been working on, hopefully by Mizu I'll have another one ready.

Regardless, Mizu was one of the first cons I played down here in FL, so I'll definitely be down to have a good time, especially to catch Mega Ran's show. Friends Chaotic Neutral will be running a shiiiiiiitton of panels, and they have been pretty fun.

Also running a special deal: If I get 500 FB likes before Mizucon, I'll play shirtless. ;)
You can tell how desperate for attention I am because of the clickbaity title.

THIS WEEK'S JAM:

Much appropos, since Mega Ran. Any time he's got Xavier Woods/Austin Creed on the brain he puts out some good stuff. I hope that one day he makes it as the official theme to one of the PPVs. One day, him and Keith Apicary will show up on a proper WWE event, and at that point, wrestling will finally be real.

Shovel Knight's got a great soundtrack, and I think only Undertale rivals it in how many awesome remixes I've seen from a recent game.

I MADE A GAME!Giant Bomb held a community Game Jam called "Giant ROM" and I made a game for it! It's a top-down shooter called "The Last Game You'll Ever Play"

The thinking behind it was to make a game in the vein of something like Ridiculous Fishing or Indigo Prophecy (in theory at least with the latter) where the better you do in one half, the more challenging the second half is.

So for TLGYEP, what I thought of doing was an E3 presentation where you pitch a game to a bunch of cyborgs, who you eventually have to fight. Right now there's only five options and one question, but fixing the game and expanding it is on the greater priority over fixing the art and presentation.

Echo Chamber Recap 134

NONARY GAME IS E-SPORTS!

-For those of you further behind, the "Nonary Game" refers to an experiment from the Zero Escape game series where 9 people are captured and and forced to play a game where they all try to escape a harrowing situation.

While I've only played 999, the first game in the Zero Escape series, the game is still worth a play, as it's filled with clever escape the room puzzles, novel character development and enough junk science to shake a stick at. In a way, it's very similar to the game version of "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream".

-MORPHOGENIC FIELDS!!!

-Resident Evil Outbreak did exist, and I remember renting the game, but not progressing very far, since the load times killed the thing. I'd like to see that take on the game again. Left 4 Dead is a comparable game, but L4D is more focused on combat, the early Resident Evil Series were focused on Puzzle solving. Something like that (and my 999 game) is WAY too hard to coordinate online, and AI opponents for something that would be way to complicated.

Good news, though. You can play on Private Servers now!

-I was going to go line by line and show all the escape rooms by where each of us live, but there's a goddamn directory of these things.

-Potluck Simulator 2015 is yet another candidate for the Echo Chamber Game Jam. IMJUSTSAYING.

-There's an article here about the success of the room escape game as a business. While it does address the concerns of a business, (repeat customers, each game can only be played once) but doesn't address how those problems are solved. The puzzles themselves are a great adrenaline rush, and the 999 series add the intrigue and characters to get attached to. But the Room Escape Businesses has all the former, but none of the latter, so there's little reason to go back.

-Jeff, Game Show Addict would be curious to check out the YouTube Channel Buzzr:

Jeff isn't big on "YOUTUBERZ!!", but it's worth a watch and is the closest thing us non-cable havers will have to some classic game shows.

-Also, the JackBox Party Pack is on Steam.

-Press Your Luck Scandal:

-Apperently the "Sonic Shitting In Tails' Mouth" thing is closer to science than we'd expect.

The "hedgehogs rub shit all over themselves" fact was mentioned no less than 100 time in the TBFP Sonic Adventure LP.

-RHYTHM BASTARD GON' GIVE IT TO YA!

-Game Dev Tycoon and Paolo has the right idea. Though I believe it needs an "Asset Flipping" option, and a Jim Sterling Expy.
I think I'm going to kick him a couple bucks for the Patreon, since his LPs keep me going at a long day of work.

-If there was a word to describe "Her Story", I'd say "Deliberate". It's the same word I'd use to describe Silent Hill 2 as well. There is no extra "stuff" for the sake of there being extra stuff, everything in the game is place exactly how the "author" intended it to be. There are queries you type down in Her Story where there's 6 videos, but you can only see the first 5. That 6th video is the one you need to see, and it's written in such a way that eventually you'll loop back there.

The logistics are mind boggling: Every word of dialogue had to be planned out in advance, with the right words being said in the right video, with every bit of dialogue matched to an exact point in the story, and every response broken up in a way that serves both the gameplay, but still feels natural. Damn.

I heard Gone Home is also in the same vein, a short, but well-crafted experience, but Her Story has a biiiit more replay value in finding all the videos.
