Status Quo Sunday Turns On The Kickstarter Machine

This week's jam, which you've heard before if the song is not familiar to you:

From of an A.V. Club article on heavily sampled beats, this one made the list, and has been featured in a lot of songs on DJ Hero. Also that drum beat is the same one from Foster The People's song "Houdini".

KICKSTARTER/ALBUM NEWS:
6 days late, but...

STATUS QUO RADIO KICKSTARTER IS LIVE!!!

It has been a VERY long time coming, but little by little, we're making our way there to the final release date. In progress for about 5 and a half years, the project is coming to fruition, and I couldn't be happier.

http://geekifyinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/kickstarter.png

There were a shitton of other things I wanted to write about right now, but it's late, and I want to get this out (technically) on time.

FUTURE CON NEWS:
It looks like fall will be very busy for me, with Umicon, Mizucon, Chibi Pa and Ultracon looking very likely to round out the year. I will provide details on all of them as they are confirmed and coming out.

PAST CON NEWS:
My set from Orlando Nerd Fest was made into a proper video on Twitch but I think I'll wait a bit before I feature it here on the site, since it might get uploaded to YouTube or something else.

As an aside:
Today was a big day for fake video game wrestling video game events:

Echo Chamber Post Game Episode 121

DOWNLOAD THIS EPISODE IN IMAX OR IN 3D OR IN D-BOX

-I separated a mp3 of out Paul Blart discussion for animating purposes.

-Also not discussed on the Paul Blart discussion: Blartsonas. Like, I'd see people on Tumblr posting drawings of themselves with mustaches in mall cop uniforms- I mean, in their Mall Cop AU. Everyone would have their own shitty form of transportantion, like instead of a Segway, it would be a Rascal Scooter, or maybe a Razor Scooter, or even a ripstick.

You KNOW there's going to be one grimdark edgy motherfucker who's Blartsona's going to look like one of those also-ran emo bands from the mid-2000s, and try to chase people on one of these:

Malachite Black
AKA: Dark Shadow Lord
Age: 14
Transportation: Ripstick
Favorite Mall Stores: Hot Topic
Background: Dark Shadow Lord is an orphan who developed his magic shadow powers while he was in the orphange. All the rest of the kids made fun of him and didn't like him so he killed them all. Eventually a secret government agency (thanks, Obama) recruited him because he was the best at using his Dark Shadow Powers. Now he dispenses Mall Justice at his local mall where he brutally murders criminals with his magic shadow powers which he totally has.

I refuse to lose to anime

Can we talk about The Baz for a minute? Cuz I want to talk about the Baz.

Originally based off a rejected Street Fighter Design from an episode of the Two Best Friends offshot series Fighterpedia, The Baz is the hypest fighter to ever grace a console. CAN YOU FEEL THE STORM? He'd be Pikachu mixed with Captain Falcon

In addition to being used as a create-a-character in numerous wrestling games, Zubaz has also been the go-to character for a lot of the games the group has Kickstarted. Pictured above is his appearance in Divekick, where he originally KOed his opponents with a trail of lightning after his kicks. Later, he was revamped so he used his whip to swing into his opponents.

http://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/shovel-knight/thumb/b/b9/Baz.png/468px-Baz.png

The next game he appeared in was Shovel Knight, where he appeared as a wandering fighter that appears on the overworld map. He still kept the lighting powers and the swinging, and kept a similar look to his appearance in Divekick. He still has two more appearances lined up, again, based off projects the Best Friends Zaibatsu Kickstarted:

From the fighting game Skullgirls, upcoming DLC fighter Beowulf has Zubaz's palatte (#24).(pictured above, with Woolie and Matt from Two Best Friends Play)

File:Mechazubaz

Then he goes to 400 ft tall. anbd fights Kaiju, still keeping ther lighting powers.

In conclusion, Nintendo, CAN YOU FEEL THE STORM?

-GUITAR HERO GAMEPLAY:

I think if Rock Band 4 says, "Yeah, you can use this one too, we found ways to map it" then Harmonix won.
FUCK YOUR SKITTLES.

Echo Chamber Episode 116 Post Game

DOWNLOAD THE S.S. ECHO CHAMBER HERE

Now, I'm on Tumblr, and enjoy playing some TF2. In my travels in getting inspiration for SQR, I run into some of the names for the pairings for characters.

So, then what would be the arrangements for the Echo Crew (not shipping, ew. Have you seen us?)

-Vsauce video about Yellow:

-THANKS, OLLAMA

-Rosalina Story is True:
"A collector of vintage Nintendo items who goes by both "Daily Dose" and "Mariotehplumber" revealed that he's pre-ordered more than a hundred Rosalina & Luma amiibo -- all because he really, really dislikes the character. "I do not appreciate Rosalina appearing in almost every recent Mario game to date. The fact Nintendo promotes her so much and people praise her is just disgusting," he said.

Daily Dose continued "I hate her fans, too. I know for a fact her amiibo will be among one of the most popular, which is why I took the time to wait and pre-order over 100 of her. I do not want her fans to be happy... It just crushes me Nintendo from the good days went to this shit for character designs.""
These are things a sane person would say. Yup.

-For the record, here's my friend 's GPT Tournament Report.

-THE BAZ!!! CAN YOU FEEL THE STORM?!?!?!?

Jeff actually has Baz's Beard.

-"You're super muy bueno at Japanese-o"

Echo Chamber Post Game Episode 86

TRIGGER WARNING: FUCKING AWESOME PODCAST

-The best thing about these episodes is that I always go "MAN! I should totally animate that!" then I think "Fuck! I have a 8-to-5 job! Fuck!"

-YuGiOh is always a tricky dick with me. Though I did take my brother to a sneak preview event for one of the sets a few months ago, and pulled a $50 card. He should have sold it, but instead he traded it for stuff in the decks he'll never play. I try to get him to go to the stuff my FNM location has, but he always finds some reason to bail "I DON'T HAVE MY PERFECT DECK! I WORK! I DIDN'T DO SO WELL LAST TIME!"

Unlike Magic, sets don't really have a theme, like Theros and Greek/Roman mythology. Instead of playtest and design making sure the flavor of the card and mechanics are juuuust right, YGO just goes "YO, MOTHERFUCKER, HAMBURGER ROBOTS!!!" and calls it a day. Then it puts a page and a half of rules text on the card whereas MtG would go like "Hexproof" or "Trample" only occasionally giving you reminder text.

BUT YO, HAVE YOU SEEN THESE HAMBURGER ROBOTS? USE THEIR LASER EYES TO ZAP THE BELLY BUTTON OF THE HIPPO KING DEVIL LANCER AND HIS CROWN FALLS ON TOP OF YOU FOR 7000 LIFE POINTS.

"Not so fast, Yugi-"

WHAT?

"I activate my trap card, Digital Data Apocalypse! It allows me to exile 5 cards into the the graveyard, including your Hamburger Robots!"

HMM! I BELIEVE IN THE HEART OF THE CARDS!!! AND MY FAITH HAS REWARDED ME WITH...GO-GO HENSHIN SYNCRO PYRONMATRIX!!!

you get the idea. But doesn't that sound like a REAL Yu-Gi-Oh match?

Interesting premise, but you can tell the game was meant for maximum drama and parental confusion, as the original manga was DBZ with cardboard rectangles instead of fists.

Now that I think about it, Yugi Moto isn't that good at the game. His power seems to just topdeck whatever he needs and POWAR OF FREENDSHUP!!!

-Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix comes out December 2nd.
No Persona til then :(

-Speaking of Kingdom Hearts, this is always relevant:

-The image Mystakin was talking about:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BrGl6zXCUAAGTu2.jpg:large

I wonder what the FFXIV equivalent of pot would be like. Phoenix Down? Ether? Salve would seem to fit the bill, since it sounds so much like salvia.

-Rocksmith, still a good game. This week's DLC, The Libertines, was underwhelming, but it's always good to see them mix shit around from week to week. As long as they go metal one week, then punk, classic rock, alternative, etc. it should keep people happy for at least the next edition. Rock Band had a lot of off weeks as well, but it also had the Rock Band Network in later incarnations to help smooth things out.

I'm approaching the point where some songs I have to slow down and go in to Riff Repeater, and I think that will be the point where most people either double down on "I WILL MASTER YOU GUITAR-OO BAN-KAAIIIII!!!!" or go "Eh, I'll play this Radiohead song I kinda know again." only to drop it after another month.

-THE BAZ IS IN SHOVEL KNIGHT

If you don't know who he is, watch here.I'm glad Matt and Woolie managed to fit this guy into so many awesome videjo games.

Shovel Knight is pretty dope. $15 bucks get you a mishmash of all your favorite NES Platformers, that manages to be its own thing. AND it's got a New Game Plus.

Echo Chamber Post Game Episode 77 and 78

THE ERICH AND ERIC SHOW- EPISODE 1

THE ERIC AND ERICH SHOW FEATURING JEFF- EPISODE 0.5

Two episodes for your listening pleasure, but both are pretty laid back, so this recap will be sparse.

-All Wrestlemania talk has been pretty much covered in my appearance on this Heel Turn podcast. Recap? Not as predictable as I was expecting it to be (aside from the main event), and the streak being beaten has lead us from Paul Heyman turning into Paul Heyman, The Most Glorious Motherfucker In Existence, Whose Client BROCK LESNAR Beat The Streak.

-Whenever someone tells me "Uh, you know wrestling's fake, right?", it's a lot like when Guitar Hero and Rock Band were first getting popular, and people would say, "Uh, you know that's not a real guitar, right?" HOLY FUCK GAMESTOP AND VINCE MCMAHON LIED TO ME?!?!?!?

-Yes, Reborn! is an actual thing. I still haven't read the manga.

-Kill La Kill was an absolute blast to watch, and is a lot better than its premise would entail. Is it deep? Eh, it at least has something else going on behind all the skimpiness on the surface. There's also plenty of nice character moments that will keep you watching until the end.

I know, that's part of WHY IT'S FUN.

-Convention talk goes on a lot here. We talk PAX East (which I Missed), QuakeCon (which I would like to visit) and briefly go into Miami Hurricon (which I performed at).

The more of these things I go to, the more I feel like the less densely populated the state, the more cons there are. Back in NY, there was hardly anything smaller than NYCC, but here in Florida, there's always something going on every couple of weeks. Size and success of said cons varies, but outside of college campuses, these are big meetup spots for younger people.

Plus bars can be fucking expensive. Though a couple places nearby have 2-for-1 beers all night. That's pretty sweet. If there's a con that has 2-for-1 beers...

-Where was I? Oh yeah, so my position on Extrasolar has changed considerably. I had a guy do a thing to help me out, but I am able to go out and explore the planet. It reminds me a little bit of this PC game I played when I was younger, Dinosaur Safari. Don't remember much of it, but the Wiki page has "See Also: Pokemon Snap"

-So to combine all of this together in a completely coherent manner, here's animtor 2Snacks's take on Two Best Friends Play Pokemon Snap.

Status Quo Sunday Recaps ALL The Podcasts!

First and foremost, as promised, here's a new song "Fahrenhype"

Beat used: "Let It Crawl" by Society's Bag

Since Two Best Friends Play and Supergreatfriend both finished up their LPs of “Indigo Prophecy” at around the same time, I made this.

I got Indigo Prophecy the first week or so it came out. Like most people, I was pumped for the first few hours of game play, and it was really great because it was setting up this cool mystery, and then it absolutely went to shit. I'm kind of curious what the buildup would have been had they had proper time to finish up that project.

The initial premise, that you take on the role and the police, made for an interesting mechanic, but it's completely abandoned two scenes in to make room for the 100 other types of subplots they wanted to get in.

The characters are very broadly drawn, with their roles boiled down to things such as "The Hero", "The Love Interest", "The Black Guy", etc. and while appreciate the little details that are put into their lives (Lucas plays guitar and practices martial arts, Tyler has a girlfriend and plays video games, Carla's best friend), the characters themselves aren't very interesting. I don't have fond memories of anyone from that game like I did with Deadly Premonition and The Walking Dead.

Granted, I finished it, but only because there were so many dangling hooks, I had to be dragged along for the ride, and I was already halfway through before it became "Play Simon to advance".

At the end of the day, while I may find his games problematic, I appreciate what his doing, and am more than glad that a person like him can make the games that he does. Again, The Walking Dead came along and kicked the crap out of everything he did, but as far as making people think a little differently about games with a AAA budget, then it's OK... for now.

MY FIRST INTERVIEW!!!

My segment starts right around the 2 hour mark. We talk about screwy video games, rock n' roll radio cliches, TWO FOR TUESDAY, and movies. I'd love to be back on there again sometime!

MY SECOND APPEARANCE ON HEEL TURN

The RAW Episode after a Pay Per View is always an odd one. Hell in a Cell didn't resolve a lot, and Daniel Bryan got screwed out of the title again. It's getting old at this point, and none of the non-comedy plotlines interest me now that John Cena's back.

DRIVE BACK HOME GETS ME WORKIN' MY DRAFT MUSCLES AGAIN

And I failed... again...

FUTURE STUFF!!!

The good news is that I got a three song deep queue of stuff on the backburner, so I'm never not running out of material.

The bad news is that eventually I'm going to be moving some of the Dino Hunter MD songs off of Soundcloud, since they're on Bandcamp, and I'm running out of space on SoundCloud.
