Podcast Recaps for 2/5/2016- Oppa Oldman Style

Have you heard my latest track, "Think Geek Is Not Nerdcore"?

Who's ready to feel oooolllllllllld?

ECHO CHAMBER EPISODE 154
DOWNLOAD THIS PODCAST, DOUCHEBAG!

-MYSTAKIN'S MTG Card

-As far as Silly RPG Names go, my personal Top 3 are as follows:

In third, Mystakin's constant Butt Names.

In second, the voice of Professor Oak calling his own grandson Dicks:

And an first, WHEN YOU SO KAWAII THE PLANET DIES
-The section where Jeff talks about Punch Club I have under a sub-heard in my notes called "FUCKING BUBBLES" after the Nostalgia Critic gag.

However, I feel like the "Bubbles" thing in these types of games is simply the result of the "Best Thing" being the standard.

Here's some bullshit I came up with. Not Grade-A Star Fox/G-Diffuser Bullshit. But close:
1. Designers need a visual way to show that progress is happening. An object heading toward a meter is a good way to show that things are proceeding upward, while not relying on the player squinting at a progress bar. In the case of Game Dev Tycoon, these bubbles tick up a counter. In Punch Club, they go toward your fighters attributes, showing A. That stat is increasing, B. The activity increase that stat and C. How long that activity will remain effective in increasing that stat.

2. Bubbles are "friendly". Round shapes don't have corners, meaning they're non-threatening. Imagine a triangle or a square denoting your progress. Feels off, doesn't it? To me, at least, squares are too drab and boring to be engaging, and look way too much like a regular-ass loading screen. Triangles can be a little confusing, but might be effective. For example.

-Cloudsong? Head on over to NewGrounds, and make sure you feed your NeoPets, cause we're going oollllldschooool!

-Fray Tormenta was a priest who ran an orphanage for over 23 years, supporting it by participating in lucha libre. His legacy has had a great impact on popular culture, inspiring several movies (including the Jack Black film Nacho Libre, which wasn't terrible) and video game charachters including King from the Tekken series (who is also an orphan raising luchadore) and Greco from Chrono Cross.

Pffft... And John Cena's looking like a straight up chump with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Yeah, you visit kids, but do you RAISE THEM?

-BONUS CARD!

SLAYERS OF DECADENCE EPISODE 8
Speaking of raising ninos and fighting, IT'S SLAYERS OF DECADENCE TIME!

Eagle FightsBro and Water Loki continue to raise their children Literal Goat Daniel Bryan and Not Malcolm Reynolds. The campaign is lead by a Entertained Yet Confused Ryan.

Our god pals do this by referencing City Slickers by having the pampered city boy learn the ways of country folk, thereby gaining their respect, Naruto, by- Fuck it, I know Naruto is the best example (or at least the first one I found via Google), but we're going to say Rocky 4, since while no cliff faces are climbed perse, he still goes up in elevation on a structure than can be called a mountain.

Where were we? Right. We also do this by referencing Rocky IV where a man climbs a mountain and learns to punch Communism in its face, and by referencing every movie where a White Person uses The Art of Dance to make Minorities Believe In Themselves. Only instead of minorities, it's People Who Need A New Job and instead of Dance its Wisdom.

It kinda sucks there's only two player characters, but this is another one of those episodes, where it shows how me and Raymond's characters, and how we play and approach RPGs can differ and yet work together at the same time. So really, it's probably better that there's only two players, especially given the "parenting" subtheme (mother/father, brains/brawn, pragmatic/dramatic, etc.)

Again, shoutouts to insert quest here for doing this and Ryan from Rag-Nerd-Rok for being such a good GM.

Status Quo Sunday Fights The Kaiju

Saw Pacific Rim on Sunday. It's like Guiellromo Del Toro read my mind, found out whatever pisses me off about action movies, and said "Fuck that noise, and plus add in some Robots and Shark Monsters".

I liked Hellboy, and it's made me curious about the rest of GDT's work, but my main reason for seeing it was Charlie Day as a Scientist.

AND BACK TO THE PROGRAM!!!!

So, Studio One has officially gotten too unwieldy for me to cram everything into one file, so I've started breaking up the Studio One File into song sized chunks. I still have the main template to work from, so it's not like all is lost. I just have to learn how to master, that's all.

Now, since this was originally a TF2 concept album, I originally planned "Radio Days Pt. 1"
to be the Engineer's song, and be in three parts. HOWEVER, since the story I'm planning has taken things into a different direction, I've repurposed it, and it'll be included in the interlude that introduces the 2nd Act.

The new Radio Days will be more in line with Bob Dylan than country music, but as always I'm gonna be working my ass off on it!

NewGrounds Audio Death Match snubbed me for the 4th year in a row, BUT don't care because...

I got invited to play at Anime Festival Orlando’s inaugural Orlandia Music Festival GO! (OMFG!) on August 16-18th. Details are coming soon, but I will have to update the sideboard.

SO, if you want to help a brother out, and help build up my warchest so I can start selling physical merch, my album if for sale, and you CAN pay more than $0!

Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch 2012 Poll

VOTE NOW!

It's that time of year again; the Audio Deathmatch for NewGrounds Audio Portal supremacy! In order to audition, I need to submit my BEST song to audition. What do you think I should put down?

I was thinking either "Hell Yeah", "Cliffhanger" or "Wanderin Johnny". "Status Quo Radio" isn't up on NewGrounds yet, so I don't know. I tried "Axe Cop" last year and I didn't make it in.

NewGrounds Audio Contest Entry Live Blog

Been putting off for a while, now I'm finally putting a song down, because this month's theme is... ZOMBIES!!!

2:23 PM- Spend all day dicking about. Now sitting down to type up the lyrics, listening to a Mario Party Let's Play

2:48 PM- Lyrics all typed up, now getting ready to record vocals. I so badly want to get outside, as I've cooped up all morning playing Halo: Reach DOING GOOD WORK FOR MY COMMUNITY, but the weather in NY right now is about 100F.

3:20 PM- Friend o' mine Koltreg's got two webcomics: Changeling and Socialfist, and by donating to his Kickstarter, you can get signed copies of both the books! I see a lot of potential in these young webcomics, and I'm gonna donate once I'm sure about what the hell is going on in Student Loan county and the Warped Tour jursidiction.

Also I just opened up REAPER, beats all set up. Holler!

4:00 PM- 2/5ths done with the lyrics. Like Robotman's Lament, it's a story driven song, so I'm trying vocals first. My singning lacks intensity when it's this fast, and there's no guitar to go off of. Hopefully it works out.

4:15 PM- 3/5ths. Parents want to go out to see Captain America. I kinda do too, since it's getting really good buzz, and it looks very self-contained.

7:55 PM- Bad news, I went to see Captain America. Good news, it was worth it, I'm full of 7-11 Chicken Strips and am ready to lay down guitar. Also, I discovered that I could either completely pay off one of my student loans or see Warped Tour...

9:58 PM- Shit, I've wasted a lot of time, haven't I? Right, so I've been through two takes, deleted them, not to my liking. At least I'm getting a lock down on what I do want. The way I figure it, I only have another hour, since I need to post it up and stuff.

11:42 PM- FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK! At this point maybe some of the guitar tracks are acceptable. It's done, people are in the house looking to sleep and I only got maybe one good run-through left. FUCK. Prolly not making Warped Tour. FUCK.

"Radio Days Pt. 1" in The Sagittarian 3!!

One of my earliest songs, Radio Days Pt. 1 is in the new zombie adventure game on NewGrounds,
The Sagittarian 3!

I was first contacted about using that song in the game in April. Hyptosis, creator of the game, sent me a message asking for permission. Now, I hadn't touched my NewGrounds account in a while, and that message made me realize how worthwhile a system it can be. At the very least, lightning can strike twice, another artist can use another one of my songs in his movie/game, and that works out for me as well.

Also, quality of reviews aside, there's at least some brand of quantifiable feedback which, when used by someone knowledgeable and eloquent, can be very useful and encouraging.

P.S. I've already seen like 10 requests asking where Sagittarian 3 is.

Here's a live version of the song from my set at The Vault a few months ago.

Rhythm Bastard Pleased With Sucess Of Announcement Of Announcement

SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2010. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: RHYTHM BASTARD PLEASED WITH SUCCESS OF ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANNOUNCEMENT.

NEW YORK, NY. Rhythm Bastard, who recently announced that he would make an announcement, boasts of his recent success:
"I got like, a million hits from just the idea that I'll be announcing something."

Records show he only received 16 hits. 7 of those were counted twice.

Will it be big? The Rhythm Bastard seems to think so: "With all these posts related to my as of yet unmade announcement of something big, it can't possibly be a letdown! Like Daiktana! Or the box-office draw to Scott Pilgrim vs The World" The latter being a movie staring Michael Cera based off a series of Graphic Novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley. The former is bieng turned into a movie starring Michael Cera and will be released in 2013.

His accountant Phil had this to say: "As a running joke that nobody gives a shit about as well as an accountant, this is a huge failure. He doesn't even sell anything, and barely bothers to network. For the love of God, please get me out of here. This man keeps me chained in his parents basement"

The Rhythm Bastard's father is equally unimpressed with the success of the announcement: "I don't care if my generation turned into a bunch greedy fucks and would rather make a profit than hire new people to ease the workload, I'm tired of him on the goddamn computer and playing his goddamn guitar."

His mother's take on the event is unorthodox, to say the least "Could you do me a favor and bring the laundry basket down?" She said, standing next to said laundry basket with perfectly functioning legs.

Regardless, the Rhythm Bastard remains steadfast that his announcement will bring him even more success: "Read my lips. I will make you my bitch."

He then proceeded to physically abuse his accountant, Phil.

The Rhythm Bastard had originally started a blog to chronicle his learning of the songs from the original Rock Band music video game. Now he does this shit and writes his own songs. His only claim to fame was posting the Guitar Hero: Arcade setlist.

He also has a song about Axe Cop available for download. Other songs can be downloaded via his Newgrounds Page.

NewGrounds Audio Portal

I posted up some of my stuff on the NewGrounds Audio Portal That way I can get feedback from more people.

Usually on the AP, you'll find a lot of techno and drum/bass, because that's what's easiest to make in Fruity Loops. But there are a few standouts. So, without further ado, here's some of my picks:
Hollywise
It's a good pop-punk, and tells a story. The solo fucks up a bit toward the beginning, but other than that, I love it.

Hopeless Drunk
This is a nice peppy number that sounds like "Drunk Beatles" (scientifically speaking of course)

White Houses
If the Smashing Pumpkins and Cream had a baby, this song would be the end result. The vocals are really fuzzy, which seems to be a big problem with all these recordings. Either way, all of these guys are good, independent music that cost the ever so attractive price of zero.
